About the Opportunity
The Distribution Center General Manager plans, directs, coordinates and implements all warehouse policies/procedures for a large, high volume, multi-shift warehouse operation. In conjunction with these responsibilities, they direct and coordinate activities of the industrial organization to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations, while maximizing profits by performing the following duties personally, or through delegation to subordinates.
About the Position
Responsible for activities, configurations, production support, audit support, transportation and distribution support.Implementation of special projects as assigned that impact the system and site for warehouse operations.Analysis of operations on a continuing basis to make necessary improvements to ensure cross functional operating efficiencies in the warehouse. Analyzes throughput information, capacity planning, flow through and financial information.Develops internal operational procedures and operational budget plans for the warehouse operations Plans, develops and implements organizational policies and goals. Supports and works closely with safety, human resources, and engineering to promote productivity improvement programs. Ensures implementation of industry standard best practices in the facility.Knowledge of every facet of the operation; must strive to constantly develop staff and better the organization.Provides adequate coaching and development of operations managers, supervisors and other staff to ensure capable management succession.Manages customer inventory, utilizing sound security policies and procedures consistent with good accounting and distribution practices.Reviews activity, operating, and financial reports to determine changes in programs or operations as required.Establishes product movement and oversees all projects for warehouse operations.Directs the efforts of all supervisors, operation managers and logistics analyst.Hires and downsizes staff as needed.
Qualifications
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common injuries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.Ability to develop presentations and present information professionally to internal and external management/customers.Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.Ability to work effectively in a multi-tasking environment. Ability to work constructively under stress and pressure. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet specific goals and deadlines. Ability to build a team attitude by managing employees in a way that fosters teamwork instead of individual gain. Ability to motivate, train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinates. Ability to take corrective action in a constructive manner with employees who cause issues in the workplace.Ability to make sound and timely decisions.Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Lotus Notes, Word, Power Point, Visio, and Excel; Access is also preferred; SAP knowledge preferred.Experience with the implementation of business improvement programs such as Six Sigma practices and Lean Principals:Project ManagementProcess FlowsRoot Cause AnalysisCross-functional teamsCost JustificationTime Studies
Education/Relevant Experience
Associate’s degree with 5+ years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
