JOB SUMMARY

Provides centrally managed law enforcement radio monitoring with event logging and recording, alarm monitoring of intrusion detection systems, and emergency dispatch, incident reporting and analysis, and remote alarm panel programming.  In addition, the National Law Enforcement Control Centers (NLECCs) will provide after‑hours emergency phone coverage for all Inspection Service divisions.

 

Distinguishing Characteristics

Primarily performs non-exempt duties of relatively high level of complexity, independence, and/or accountability in radio monitoring and/or after-hours emergency response.

1.       Monitors the Inspection Service’s national radio traffic, record events, provide information requested by radio users

2.       Monitors intrusion detection systems using automated alarm monitoring software, initiate internal or police response based on defined criteria, accurately capture event information, confirm accuracy of data recorded in the alarm database, interact with postal employees including postal inspectors, postal customers, and police departments

3.       Monitors and process after-hours phone traffic

Carries out specific tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required for the assigned site 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT ENTRY

Additional qualifications may be specified and receive preference, depending upon the nature of the position.

Background Prerequisites

·         Must undergo and meet company standards for background and reference checks, controlled substance testing, and behavioral selection survey, in addition to any mandatory licensing requirements.

·         Must be a Citizen of the United States of America

·         Must be 21 years of age or older.

·         Possess an interim or final Sensitive Security Clearance.

Education/Experience

High School Diploma or G.E.DMinimum 6 months previous satisfactory work experience as a police dispatcher or 911 Emergency DispatcherAPCO Dispatcher Certification is desirable

Competencies (as demonstrated through experience, training, and/or testing)

Must be able to meet and continue to meet any applicable state, county, and municipal licensing requirements for dispatchers including APCO dispatcher certification.Knowledge of or ability to learn operations and procedures.

·         Ability to see, hear, speak, and write clearly in English in order to communicate with employees and clients.

·         Ability to hear ordinary phone and radio conversation with either ear.

Ability to write routine correspondence, including logs and reports.Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Ability to be an effective team member.Ability to maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances.Courteous telephone manner.Ability to adapt to changes in the external environment and organization.Good organizational skills.Ability to provide high quality customer service. Must have the ability to deal tactfully with postal employees, postal customers, postal management and the public.Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively at various social levels and across diverse cultures. Required ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently. Basic skills in keyboarding, computer usage, and operating controls Possess strong computer and data entry skills, including knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; experience with alarm monitoring software such as MAStermind is desirable. Possess ability to prioritize work from different communication sources (radio, telephone, alarm monitoring software).
