SUMMARY OF POSITION: This role is accountable for improving the competitiveness of MBI by maximizing the value of our material spend, mitigating supply and price risk in a global market, aggregating global spend, and developing our global supplier base to meet the strategic objectives of the business. Leading a team of senior-level purchasing professionals, each managing commodities, this role works cross-functionally with operations, quality, sales, and marketing leadership to develop global strategies, gain alignment, and drive improvements. Success in this position is based on minimizing total cost of material spend, improving the capabilities of individuals in the purchasing process, aligning relationships with key suppliers, and implementing systemic solutions that provide long term competitive advantages. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Develop our global supplier base by managing capabilities, relationships, gaps, and strategic alignment. 2. Aggregate global spend data and drive improvements through collaboration and negotiation. 3. Develop and execute risk mitigation plans aligned with strategic objectives. 4. Maintain material pricing information and manage cost reduction programs. 5. Mentor and coach staff to achieve objectives and develop capabilities. 6. Understand market and feedstock price drivers and develop strategies to minimize risks. 7. Manage the Supplier Scorecard process to drive supplier and process improvements. 8. Support the new product development process by setting clear expectations, selecting suppliers to maximize long term success, and addressing gaps in requirements and capabilities. 9. Manage the deployment of process control activities at key suppliers. 10. Work collaboratively with global plant procurement groups to build local capabilities and deploy global strategic initiatives. 11. Work collaboratively with sales and marketing to align supplier capabilities with customer requirements to maximize value and minimize spend. 12. Communicate changes in market conditions, pricing, and supply, and coordinate cross-functional teams as required to resolve issues. 13. Negotiate agreements with suppliers and provide leadership to staff supporting their negotiations. 14. Domestic and International travel is required, 10-15%. Requirements: Education: BS/BA degree required; MBA desirable. Experience: * Minimum 7-10 years purchasing or related experience in a leadership role. * Global sourcing experience. * Strong negotiation skills. * Ability to lead and manage change in a global organization. * Strong leadership, communication, and team building skills. Skills/Qualifications: * Working knowledge of purchasing/contracting principles. * Chemical and/or pharmaceutical experience. * Chemistry or chemical engineering background desirable, but not required. * Six Sigma green belt and professional certification is desirable.
