West Virginia University is seeking a dynamic, dedicated professional to serve as Director of Payroll & Tax Service. This managerial position will report to the AVP for Finance, and is responsible for developing and implementing policy related to managing the accounting and compliance of WVU, including its regional campuses and Research Corporation.
Responsibilities include: managing payroll operations and tax functions; overseeing tax issues, including non-resident alien matters; managing Human Resources database; serving as liaison with University tax consultants; overseeing payroll operations and accounting functions; performing and/or leading financial and accounting studies and projects; developing decision support information and/or presentation material used by senior management; coordinating, compiling, and presenting topical information to senior administrators; overseeing the administrative operating staff; and interfacing with appropriate staff at the Higher Education Policy Commission and State government.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance or equivalent field. Seven years of progressive experience in financial operations interpreting the provisions of IRS and state tax codes; labor guidelines; federal regulations, and GASB, NACUBO, and AICPA guidelines. The successful candidate must have a thorough knowledge of accounting principles, strong computer skills, strong oral and written communication skills, understanding of business practice standards, and the professional judgment to operate in a flexible environment where institutional integrity is paramount. A Master's degree and CPA certification preferred.
