NewPage owns paper mills located in Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nova Scotia and Wisconsin. These mills have a total annual production capacity of approximately 5.5 million short tons of paper, including approximately 4.3 million short tons of coated paper, approximately 920,000 short tons of uncoated paper and approximately 300,000 short tons of specialty paper, as well as approximately 3.2 million short tons of pulp.

 

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

This position is responsible for leading talent management, organization effectiveness, and learning activity within the business including design, deployment, and enhancement of programs. Interfaces with company business leadership and employees. Ensures effective integration of activities with corporate training/development, learning and organizational effectiveness objectives.  Develops priorities in direct alignment with business strategy. Provides organizational development strategy and drives change initiatives across the company in order to optimize organizational potential and achieve strategic business and operational objectives.  Strong emphasis on aligning organizational capabilities with strategic business objectives.  Prefer substantial business experience including talent management, organization effectiveness and learning experience in large, complex organizations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

·          Through the application of strong business and organizational development practices, work to engage employees across the organization around NewPage business and productivity goals.  Ensure that the Company’s management principles, policies and programs are consistently practiced.

·          Lead design, deployment, and enhancement of talent management programs including annual talent review (HR Review), high potential and development programs.

·          Create and implement learning strategies to ensure that the company has the required human capital to meet it’s strategic business objectives.

·          Analyze the management culture and practices within the company and consult to the VP HR and company Leadership team to align the culture with the organizations vision.

·          Implement organization effectiveness tools to ensure maximum engagement and continuous improvement of the company leaders.

·          Create and implement strategies to integrate the HR Review process into the management culture.

·          Evaluate strategies and programs to measure the achievement of established goals.

·          Provide facilitation and coaching to management regarding talent management, organization effectiveness and training/development/learning methods and tools.

·          Establish and implement appropriate training and development practices to enhance employee skills and create career development opportunities.  Establish a core curriculum of training courses by function, utilizing both internal and external training resources. 

·          Establish and implement a performance management approach supporting NewPage business objectives and improving business results.

·          Establish an organizational climate survey and approach to measuring cultural transition over time. 

·          Coordinate closely with senior management on cultural readiness and preparation for Lean Six Sigma productivity initiatives as well as other programs.  

·          Manage ongoing succession planning and career development for high potential employees and senior management.

·          Participant on NewPage Human Resources Leadership Team.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

·          8-10 years experience in increasingly responsible management positions within Human Resources and/or Organizational Development. 

·          Master’s degree preferred.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

·          Proven track record of success with business, talent management, OE/OD, learning leadership in large, complex organizations.

·          Strong business acumen and ability to influence senior levels of the organization.

·          General understanding of employment, compensation, organizational planning, training and development.  Successful candidate must possess knowledge of general employee relations principles and practices.

·          Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at various levels including the executive leadership team.

·          Excellent analytical, trouble-shooting and problem solving skills.

·          Ability to work effectively in matrixed environment.

·          Strong communication skills: written, oral and listening skills.

·          Experience in a results based culture. Strategic thinker with ability to execute in a timely a manner.

·          Successful candidate must be able to perform projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities, have strong interpersonal abilities, exercise sound judgment and be resourceful.

·          Exposure to Lean Six Sigma processes highly preferred. 

·          Industrial/Manufacturing experience in a highly unionized work environment preferred.
