Essential Skills:
The Director of Nursing is a licensed professional who assumes responsibility and authority for the management and administration and coordination of nursing in the agency in accordance with the company standards and policies and state, federal and accrediting body guidelines. The Director of Nursing assists in planning of agency activities and budget, and organizes, administers and supervises health services within the agency. The Director enforces and ensures that a total quality management program for all aspects of patient care is maintained. The director of nursing is responsible for assisting the General Manager in meeting operational and financial goals for the location. Management of the nursing operations will consist of 80-90% of the Director of Nursing's time. Establish, adhere to and maintain agency policy and patient care procedures in compliance with state health statues and administrative rules. Interprets and implements policies and procedures of the agency and oversees the selection, development, and monitoring of nursing staff Direct the supervision and evaluation of all personnel who provide direct patient care and direct all human resource issues related to nursing and allied health services personnel. Hiring, training, counseling, advising, evaluating the performance of, and when necessary, disciplining and/or discharging personnel. Reviews recommendations of subordinate supervisory staff regarding employee relations issues and provides guidance in resolving complex or sensitive problems. Maintains and promotes positive employee relations in the work environment. Directs the coordination of patient care services and maintenance of company/corporate policies for and keep records of criteria for admission to service, case assignments, and case management. Maintains agency compliance with state and federal guidelines for disciplines. Ensures that all nurses providing care maintain the professional standards of nursing practice. Implements and maintains systems for review of productivity and cost-effectiveness. Assists the General Manager in preparing, securing approval for, and implementing operating and expenditure budgets for department, and operates within those guidelines. Knowledge of budgeting and expense control to plan, implement, and maximize expenditure of funds while maintaining quality standards. Establishes and ensures the purchase and expedition of medical supplies and pumps within budget constraints. Ensures compliance with legal regulations Keeps apprised of all legal regulations affecting nursing and ensures that the department is in compliance. Develops monitoring and enforcement devices to ensure that the departments are in compliance with new and updated procedures as required. Participates in the process for assessing, managing, and reporting nursing operational and financial data to the general manager. Ensures that all pharmacy data reporting elements are monitored and documented according to operational policy and procedures. Reviews data to assist in the efficient management of the nursing department. Assists with the establishment of on going quality improvement and PI programs in accordance with policy and procedure. Ensures that audits of patient medical records, care plans and clinical activities are completed per the PI Plan; assures quality improvement adherence to company/corporate policy/procedures and that the quality improvement program assures: Case assignment and management is appropriate, adequate, and consistent with the patient care plan, medical regimen and patient needs. Nursing and other services are coordinated, appropriate, and consistent with the patient care plans. Ensures that statistical and analytical information is reported as indicated in policies and procedures. Reports Key Indicators to GM monthly. Accreditation facilitator and leader. Determines suitability of individual patients for home care. Collects and organizes all patient-specific information needed to determine the suitability of patients for home care. Assesses patients' suitability for home care in accordance with Option Care's policies. Verifies that the patient's medical condition and prescribed therapy is suitable for home care. Provide inservice education to physicians, nurses, pharmacy technicians, and other practitioners on home care infusion-related issues. Maintains and advance personal clinical and management education. Design effective educational programs for physicians, nurses, pharmacy technicians, and other practitioners on home care infusion-related issues. Coordinates and directs all agency operations related to nursing, including direct/indirect patient services, case management, discharge planning. Coordinates and participates in on-call responsibilities for the nursing department. Coordinates all patient care and services in cooperation with the Director of Pharmacy. Facilitates a clinical networking system for the agency and acts as a clinical resource. Determines cost-effective measures of appropriating goods and services and maintaining profitability of the office. Is instrumental in the safe and cost-efficient selection of medical products. Maintains control of the cost of medical supplies and nursing service. Participates in the process for assessing, managing, and reporting nursing operational and financial data to the general manager. Serves as office administrator with the pharmacy manager or Director or Pharmacy in the absence of the General Manager. Serves as the Administrator of the home health agency per Medicare Conditions of Participation definition. Maintain confidentiality of patient and proprietary information. Observe legal and ethical guidelines for safeguarding the confidentiality of patient and proprietary Option Care information. Provides support to sales professionals and general manager. Meets with managed care organizations and other accounts to facilitate education regarding available services.



Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:

Registered Nurse with a license in the current state of practice.
Five years home health/infusion care experience or equivalent.
Three years of progressive experience in a management or supervisory position in the home care setting.
Knowledge of local, State, Federal, accrediting body, and OSHA rules and regulations.
Evidence of strong leadership and supervisory skills.
Self-directed with excellent time.
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and oral) with team members, patients, caregivers, physicians and referral sources.
Ability to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate clinical programs that will meet the needs of the community served.
Ability to teach, train and empower staff to implement the clinical services process in the home care setting.
Flexibility and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Active member of a state or national professional organization.
Preferred Qualifications:

BSN with CRNI or other professional certification. Documentation of advanced management training.
