The University of Notre Dame (www.nd.edu), one of the nation’s top 20 institutions of higher learning, is accepting applications for a Director of Maintenance within the Office of the University Architect (http://architect.nd.edu). The Director of Maintenance will lead in the development of a world-class department of energized, highly-responsive, and forward-looking maintenance professionals dedicated to serving the University with action and advice that results in the measurable improvement in the conditions of campus buildings.
Specific duties include:
- Lead and supervise the delivery of highly efficient and effective daily maintenance services for over 8 million gross square feet of campus buildings and the sidewalks, roads, drives, and other paved surfaces on the 1,250 acres of the campus.
- Lead in the development of a proactive maintenance plan the describes the current condition of all approximately 140 campus buildings owned and/or maintained by the University on its northern Indiana campus and its other off-campus facilities, if requested. The plan shall also make recommendations for each building and all of its individual building systems (e.g. roofing, exterior walls, interior finishes, HVAC, etc.) with respect to projected remaining service life and estimated costs to repair, renovate, or replace. Make presentations to University Officers and Trustees on the status of the plan and the budget resources necessary to implement it.
- Build a detailed facilities management database of all University-owned and/ or maintained buildings on its main campus.
- Create and routinely provide a series of reports that measure and monitor the maintenance activities and their costs. Track maintenance and small facility improvement projects by type (funded by maintenance, survey, departmental, etc.) and regularly report progress on schedules, costs, scope, and other relevant information.
- Collaborate with other University facilities leaders such as the Director of Facilities Operations, the Assistant Director of Utilities, and in executing these responsibilities and in other efforts as required to best serve the University with world-class facilities maintenance services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in engineering or architecture required. Must have the ability to work in a dynamic, invigorating environment with high expectations for achieving excellence is essential in order to be successful in this position.
Twenty years of experience in the field of facilities design, construction, or maintenance is essential.
- At least fifteen years of this experience must have been in the maintenance of institutional buildings.
- At least ten years of this experience must have been as the director or assistant director of maintenance at a college or university with at least 75 buildings and 4 million square feet.
