Summary

The Director of Finance serves as the principle financial advisor to theExecutive Director, the Controller and the senior management team and providesprofessional leadership in the areas of accounting and financial reporting;financial systems, procedures and controls, policies, and management; short andlong-range operating and capital budgeting; financial analysis; cash,investment, and debt management; and risk management. The Director of Financeoversees the accounting department and is a member of the senior managementteam.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties maybe assigned by Executive Director.

- Manage BAVC’s finance and accounting activities, including generalaccounting; financial reporting; budgeting, forecasting, and financialplanning; and cash, investment, and debt management.
- Integrate financial and budgetary operations into the management of programactivities and creating financial metrics for programs.
- Ensure the integrity of BAVC’s financial information and protect BAVCmonetary resources through a comprehensive system of internal accountingcontrols, policies and procedures.
- Lead the senior management team in the preparation and administration of theannual operating budget, grant budgets, and fee for service contracts.
- Oversee the timely and accurate preparation and distribution of financialreports; provide financial analyses and recommendations to the ExecutiveDirector, senior management team and Board of Directors.
- Ensure BAVC compliance with accounting and financial reporting requirementsof federal, state, and other regulatory authorities.
- Solid understanding of governmental accounting practices as well as nonprofitaccounting practices.
- Perform financial analysis for assessing and instituting BAVC programs andoperations.
- Oversee the conduct of the annual audit, including recommending and managingthe relationship with the independent accountants.
- Maintain liaison with external advisors and lenders, including legal counsel,auditors, financial and accounting consultants, bankers and negotiate indirectrate with our cognizant agency.
- Oversee financial and accounting systems including the Blackbaud generalledger and related sub-ledgers and the payroll.
- Attend Board Meetings for the purpose of supporting the Executive Director incommunicating the status of financial matters to the Board. Lead and attendstaff and management meetings as appropriate.
- Assume final responsibility for finance and accounting operations, includingthe creation of the annual budget, periodic forecasts, and reports; grantproject budgets; asset and inventory management; cash flow management.
- Oversee implementation of governmentcontracts and ensure compliance with agency performance, documentationand cost accounting requirements.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Advise the Controller on accounting procedures and accounting principles.Advise senior management on financial strategies and systems to raise theoverall level of financial expertise at BAVC. Utilize effective managementprinciples for the Accounting team.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

- BS or equivalent in Accounting/Finance.
- Prefer CPA or MBA.
- Nonprofit and government (A-133) experience desired.
- Audit experience is desired.
- 5-10 years of professional experience in a complex and sophisticatedfinancial environment, including responsibility for general accounting; costaccounting; financial planning and management; financial statements, budgetmanagement; financial systems.
- Strong computer skills including Excel, Word and report writing features ofgeneral ledger software.
- Experience with overseeing audits by external and governmental auditors.
- Experience with Blackbaud a plus.
- Prefer experience with not-for-profit or government contract accounting.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and management skills.
- Experience developing and supporting staff by setting expectations,effective communication, and developing a collaborative work environment.
