Job Description: Director of Engineering

Reports To: Vice President of Manufacturing & Engineering

Location: Jackson, MS

Responsibilities:

Director will be responsible for all Unified Brand’s product lines. Requires the ability to work within a cross-functional team environment to develop new products and resolve field, vendor and production problems as well as provide manufacturing, production, quality, and service support in addition will lead design efforts for cost reduction and warranty analysis.

Tasks:

Lead and/or support cross-functional teams in the development of new products and product improvements for Unified Brand’s product lines.

Maintain adequate customer, sales, purchasing, manufacturing, production, quality and service support. Utilize all available resources to resolve problems quickly and effectively. Personally participate in the solution of the more difficult problems.

Plan, organize and schedule the work of key reports.

Ensure that project commitments are met including cost, timeline, product function, performance, serviceability and appearance, etc.

Ensure that all designs are in compliance with safety and agency requirements - both domestic and foreign.

Prepare reports relating to project status, costs or procedures as needed.

Maintain an effective engineering test lab.

Maintain an effective document control system on new product development and agency test results for both internal and externally produced documents.

Build a close relationship with the sales, purchasing, manufacturing, production, quality and service departments. Keep these areas informed and supplied with information in a timely manner.

Maintain a competent staff and work force consistent with work levels. Ensure that they have the proper facilities, equipment and that the workload for each group member is fair and adequate to accomplish the department goals.

Responsible for the supervision of subordinates. This includes responsibility for their work results, career planning and advancement, training, reviews and disciplinary actions.

Keep abreast and well informed on competitor’s products and general marketing and pricing conditions in our field.

Education:

Requires a B. S. in Engineering or equivalent.

Experience:

Minimum of ten (10) years in related field, with a minimum of five (5) years in a supervisory role. Extensive knowledge in theory, principle and procedures required. Proven success in product development and team building in hands on cross-functional team environment is required.
