Job Description:
CarRentals.com is looking for a hands-on Director of Engineering to help take our business to the next level. You will be responsible for the evolution of our open source technology platform, and will design and implement industry leading consumer travel features in collaboration with our senior business leadership. Using your experience, your passion, and your history of success in growth-phase companies, you will influence and strengthen our engineering practices across design, implementation, testing, deployment, operations, and capacity planning.
Requirements:
• A track record as an accomplished software engineer.
• Experience leading sizeable projects to successful completion
• Strong communications skills and ability to collaborate with teammates, business stakeholders and 3rd parties possessing a broad range of technology expertise.
• Uses strong awareness and understanding of business goals, opportunities, and risks to drive technology decisions.
• Ability to lead design reviews as well as code reviews, and make key decisions on both long-term and real-time technology issues.
• Advanced knowledge of J2EE architecture, server side Java, and high-traffic internet applications
• Operational experience with UNIX and relational databases.
• Strong object-oriented analysis and design skills.
• Orientation toward building scalable, extensible systems, teams, and processes that will hold up to the demands of a fast growing online business.
• Expert analytical/conceptual skills
• Project planning / Resource Allocation / Management Skills
• Ability to work in an extremely fast-paced environment.
• Bachelors or Master's degree in Computer Science (CS), Engineering
(BSE), or other technical field
• 5+ years professional engineering experience

• Translate customer business requirements into functional and design
specifications
• Contribute to development, design, and implementation of web site
• Mobile web product and software development
• Utilization of XML and XSLT
• J2EE Design Patterns
• Relational Database (RDBMS) Table Design
• MYSQL UPDATE/SELECT Performance Optimization
• JavaScript, HTML, DHTML, and CSS Integration
• Test Suite Development (TestNG testing framework)
• Load Testing, Profiling, Performance Optimization
• -Capacity Forecasting and planning
• -Configuration Management, Source Control, Build/Release/Deployment processes
• -Manage further growth of technology team as necessary
