Job Description

Director, Manufacturing Engineering - Pharmaceutical Co. - Providence, RI

We are a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development of proprietary, late stage pharmaceutical products. These products target market opportunities through product improvement and line extension strategies. We are creating a portfolio of improved pharmaceutical products with potentially less development risk and shorter times to market. We use our broad expertise in drug formulation, manufacturing, basic science (chemistry, biology, bioengineering), marketing and clinical trials management to identify and execute product opportunities.

Job Responsibilities:

* Serve as Project Manager/Director to certain Contract Manufacturing sites.
* Responsible for the evaluation and selection of manufacturing, packaging and warehousing equipment to support a variety of company initiatives.
* Provide equipment technical support to in-house Manufacturing and Contract manufacturers.
* Serve as an active member of a multidisciplinary team within the company and with outside Contract Manufacturers to solve equipment problems.
* Write equipment setup and maintenance protocols and SOPs.
* Support the preparation of the chemistry, manufacturing and controls portion for IND/NDA/ANDA submissions
* Comply with all aspects of cGMP, Safety, DEA and Environmental legislation and with company policy
* Train and supervise staff/contractors in the equipment design, fabrication/construction, implementation and validation phases.
* Continuously evaluate new pharmaceutical equipment technologies for aerosol, gel, ointment and tablet/capsule products.
* Provide equipment project updates to immediate management, and/or senior management, as requested.

Job Requirements:

* B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
* 4-8 years of experience in the Manufacturing Engineering function in the pharmaceutical industry.
* Hands on experience in the evaluation, selection, possibly the design of certain manufacturing equipment for tablet/capsule and/or aerosol dosage forms.
* Prior experience supervising the construction of pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities is desirable.
* Have conducted and led the Design Qualification, Installation Qualification, Operation Qualification and Performance Qualification of pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment and facilities.
* Understanding of GMP and FDA guidelines, and the general requirements for pharmaceutical manufacturing construction.
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
* Must be willing to be "hands on" or to train and direct junior staff as required.
* Highly effective interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
* Proactive and innovative problem solving skills.
* Creativity, imagination, and ability to transform ideas into patentable and marketable products and processes.
* Must be willing to travel domestically or internationally up to an average of 20%.


Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer.
