Position Description: Director of Supply Chain Management

_______________________________________________________________

We strive for excellence while working in a balanced and fun atmosphere that rewards hard work, initiative and innovation.  With a collection of award-winning, best-selling nursing and infant support products available, and more always in development, our company has earned a place as a player in the multi-million dollar baby products industry.  But success hasn’t transformed us from a friendly, family-oriented company to a layered, bureaucratic corporation.  We are passionate about our products and love celebrating the joy babies bring.  The same creative spirit that makes our products special, keeps the work environment here fun and energetic.  This position reports to the President of the Company.

Responsibilities

In this role, this team member will serve as a key contributor on the strategic planning team; contributing to the development of long and short term strategic objectives, operating business plans, policies, and programs; and implementing the strategic objectives through the Company and external partners.  This individual reports to the Company’s senior leadership.  As such, being proactive to anticipate and solve problems, setting strategic direction, taking initiative to make proposals to accomplish the company’s strategy, communication skills, and working independently are critical.

This individual will be a key member of the strategic team in communicating the company’s strategy to the Board of Directors, investors, and existing or potential business partners,  This communication may include presentations, analysis, leading discussion sessions, and other forums.

He/she will proactively develop proposals for the company’s manufacturing and distribution strategy to meet the current and future needs of the customer base and to meet internal goals.  This may include, but is not limited to, business partnerships, component and product sourcing, systems enhancements, product mix, safety and quality standards. This individual will lead implementation of approved proposals, working across the company and with outside partners as needed.  Taking a very broad view of customer and internal needs, and proactively and creatively meeting those needs, will be important to success.

Key areas of accountability include directing the manufacturing and operations activities ensuring that the suppliers and third-party manufacturers meet outlined objectives.  This individual is responsible for tracking, acting upon, and improving stocking and delivery metrics reported by our key retailers.  He/she will manage the strategic relationships between the third-party manufacturers, suppliers, and Boppy.   He/she has ownership for negotiating third-party contracts with suppliers and factories to ensure business needs will be met, now and in the future. This position must ensure compliance with changing retailer requirements in all phases of the supply chain.

He/she will develop and monitor budgets and forecasts for manufacturing and operations expenses, inventory levels, cost of goods, and capital expenditures.  Working with the Finance VP, he/she will review profit and loss statements, and assist in understanding variances.

He/she will collaborate with other departments within the company (Sales, New Products, Finance, and Marketing) to ensure that new products are introduced to the third-party manufacturers and shipped on schedule.  This includes proactive involvement in the new product development process to ensure that the appropriate sourcing, quality testing, cost evaluation, labor demands, capacity, equipment needs, manufacturing processes and supplier criteria are identified and implemented.  In some cases, it will make sense to license the new product, rather than creating the product within the company. The Director will be responsible for negotiating the license agreement, or working with others on the team to negotiate the license agreement.

This individual will take ownership for sourcing components and products, and developing sourcing strategies.  Ensuring alignment and integration across multiple disciplines (Product Development, Sales and Marketing, Operations) as it relates to the sourcing process will be important.  The sourcing strategies include worldwide optimization of cost, quality, and time;  influencing the product development process, identifying and qualifying new suppliers, and proactively seeing new materials for product development.

This position has ownership for product quality throughout the supply chain, including raw components, finished goods, and manufacturing processes.    He/she must ensure that changes in quality requirements, whether from retailers or government agencies, are identified and implemented in a timely fashion.  This includes both international and domestic quality requirements.  This individual is also responsible for making recommendations for changes to the new products introduction process to ensure the most current quality requirements are being met.

He/she will proactively identify and lead implementation of continuous improvement processes to meet corporate cost of sales, quality, and safety goals.  This may include such activities as sponsoring projects regarding operations improvements, equipment upgrades, and facility expansions.  This individual will also be responsible for the company’s information technology, working through a third-party provider.

He/she will provide ad-hoc analysis for various manufacturing and operations scenarios as needed.  This includes what-if analysis for decision making.

This team member will plan and conduct operations-related audits at manufacturers, suppliers, and other business partners as needed. He/she will work with external auditors as needed on operations-related topics.

This individual will provide ongoing leadership and vision to develop talent; and support strategies that ensure organizational growth and financial performance.  He/she will directly lead the Operations team, proactively provide coaching, training, performance and salary reviews as needed.
