OFFICE OF SPONSORED PROGRAMS
TOURO COLLEGE
Touro College of New York seeks a veteran research administrator with energy and vision to establish and direct its Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP). The Director will provide broad leadership and proper stewardship for externally funded projects and will oversee regulatory compliance from a central office. The OSP will offer services to investigators and project directors in Touro’s Graduate Schools of Education, Psychology, Business, Social Work and Information Technology as well as in Touro’s Undergraduate Division and Law Center.
Key responsibilities for the Director include:
identifying funding opportunities; reviewing, approving and submitting proposals; negotiating and administering awards; interpreting sponsor guidelines and advocating for investigators with sponsors; triaging with financial administrators on issues related to award funding and expenditures; overseeing closeout of projects; developing policies, procedures, and training programs as well as tools for faculty, staff, and administrators who are engaged in sponsored activities; providing guidance and staffing to the internal small grant Faculty Research Program and to the Institutional Review Board; representing Touro to sponsors and national professional societies; and, undertaking special projects and analyses as required.
The Director of OSP reports to the Dean of the Graduate School of Education. The OSP Director bears primary responsibility for ensuring the completion and efficient execution of OSP tasks in a customer-oriented, deadline-driven, information-sharing environment designed to facilitate the research enterprise at Touro. The Director is also expected to play a critical liaison role between Touro’s Principal Investigators/Project Directors and other units of the College’s administration. Finally, the Director will supervise all OSP staff to ensure that OSP maintains delivery of high-level professional assistance to faculty, staff and administrators on all matters related to externally funded projects.
Requirements: to be considered for the position, a thorough knowledge of college/university research administration and government and non-government sponsor regulations and policies are required. Excellent customer service skills and maintaining a good working relationship with investigators, external sponsors, and institutional colleagues are fundamental criteria. Candidate must be able to: work both independently and in a team environment; complete tasks quickly and accurately with minimum supervision; be an effective communicator and organizer; be skilled in setting priorities and dealing with non-routine, complex projects and issues. Supervisory experience and solid technological skills in electronic research administration are essential. Knowledge of financial systems and accounting procedures in a college/university setting is highly preferred. A Bachelors Degree is required with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; a Masters Degree is preferred.
