Writers: Are you good enough for the $300k job interview?
Yes, that number is right.
Now it's not going to come easy (and it won't come right away), but for a select group of smart, talented writers, it's a very real reality.
The question is: Are you one of those writers?
Can you use words to sell? Do you believe the power of persuasion is more important than the ability to be cute and clever? Do you love ideas -- digging into them and explaining them in a way that keeps people reading?
If so, you might have what it takes to be a Direct Marketing Copywriter and help us take our $42 million natural health publishing and supplement business to the next level.
But our company is about more than topline and bottomline. We're a company of ideas and of risk-taking. It's reflected in our work and in our working environment. We have no dress code, flexible hours and a generally empowering environment all around. If you feel strongly about an idea, it gets tested, not killed.
It's a special place and we're looking for smart people who will thrive here. So we're holding a weekend-long audition for a limited number of very talented people who like to sell, persuade, and educate.
Here's how it will work:
All interested parties must submit a writing sample selling, well...anything. You can try to sell a toothbrush, a DVD player, an alternative health newsletter…you choose. How long should it be? As long as it needs to be to sell what you're selling. If you'd like to see some samples of successful direct mail copy, go to www.healthiernews.com/samples
Once you have your copy written, but absolutely no later than July 7, email your sample to DMCopywriter@HealthierNews.com
Based on those samples, we’ll invite up to 15 people (no more, but maybe less) to join us in Baltimore. (Please note that all travel and lodging expenses are your responsibility).
If you're one of the 15, you're invited to a welcoming reception on Friday, August 1, where we'll give you your assignment. Then, on Saturday, you'll work on your live assignment while members of our team give you feedback, critiques, and an opportunity to make your copy stronger. On Sunday, we'll narrow the field and invite only the best to interview with us. Our goal is to find people to write copy for us full-time in our offices in Baltimore, but we are also looking for "go-to" freelancers to be on retainer for our franchises. Those are the only two options. We aren't considering anyone for a full-time position working from home nor are we interested in project-based freelancers coming to pitch their work. (Really, we're not.)
Send your contact information and the ONE copy sample described above (no resume necessary) to DMCopywriter@HealthierNews.com -- and let us know if you're interested in a full-time job in Baltimore or in a freelance contract. Please note that we're really looking for full-time people so anyone interested in working with us in Baltimore will be given priority in those 15 slots. If you're one of the people chosen to join us, we'll send you a packet with all the information you need on location, hotels, etc.
No phone calls, no follow-up emails, and no existing samples from your portfolio, please.
