Description: The role of the Marketing Department is to plan and coordinate the development, delivery and communication of ING DIRECT's financial products and services to ensure awareness, profitability and competitiveness. In addition, the Marketing Department will develop marketing, advertising, and public relations strategy and plans to meet changing market and competitive conditions.
The Direct Marketing Copy Writer will be part of team responsible for executing direct mail and insert programs with over 100 million pieces of mail and 100 million inserts annually for America's largest direct bank. They will work closely with Product management, Marketing, and other areas to create original copy and edit existing copy for direct mail packages, inserts and other areas with the goal of driving response while bringing to life ING DIRECT's brand personality.
It is essential for the writer to understand the voice of the brand. This is not the place to flex your vocabulary prowess to prove your abilities. Keep it simple.
Essential Functions:
* Work closely with Brand Agency to develop and incorporate product positioning into copy strategy
* Work directly with Campaign Manager to develop copy that fits client needs
* Utilize market research and survey results to position and develop copy
* Participate in meetings with Product Managers to obtain key product information, selling points, benefits to the consumer and competitive benchmarking
* Contribute to overall product strategy development
* Monitoring customer calls to gain first hand insights for copy development
* Creating "challenger" copy to use in control forms and inserts.
* Work closely with graphic designers in creating new marketing materials
* Ensure copy is completed and delivered on schedule and on brief
* Edit and update existing mail packages and inserts
* Opportunity to expand into newsletter, online copy, landing pages, outdoor, and customer communications. Qualifications: * A minimum of 5 years experience marketing writing with extensive experience on direct marketing programs
* Bachelor degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or related field
* Financial product background is not required
* Experience in utilizing a strong brand identity to drive direct response
* Ability to craft messages to targeted segments based on demographics, psychographics and behavior
* Familiar with standard concepts, best practices, and procedures for direct marketing
* Work well under pressure; effectively handle tight deadlines, unexpected delays, revisions, ad hoc requests and changing priorities
* Ability to multitask, conceptualize, create and work directly with other employees
* Strong creative problem solving skills
* Experience in writing new copy that adheres to brand standards
* Ability to interpret and translate analytic thinking into copy concepts
* During interview must present writing samples and brief
* Candidate must complete project and review during interview
Technical skills and abilities:
* Understanding of marketing, branding, creative development and media.
* Managing a number of marketing projects at any given time, must be organized
* A self-starter with excellent communications skills
* Strong ability to motivate the consumer.
* Resourceful, innovative creative thinker.
* Must be willing to be hands-on and ready to roll up sleeves and "get it done."
* Personality to work effectively with internal and external partners.
* Good creative judgment.
* Ability to thrive in an unstructured, ever-changing environment.
* Proficient in Microsoft Windows Business Applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
