                                            DEVELOPMENT MANAGER: DONOR RELATIONS

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Manager for Donor Relations is responsible for all aspects of the personal cultivation program for Packards’ Circle including targeted donors at lower levels and all aspects of the Ocean Legacy planned giving program including personal contact with donors for the purpose of increasing retention, gift amounts and gift frequency. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1.       Manages all aspects of the personal cultivation program for annual and planned giving donors; sets and meets individual contact goals for telephone and personal meetings/aquarium tours.  Maintains regular, personal communication with donors.  Manages donor program growth increasing giving levels and frequency of giving.

2.       Maintains a schedule of personal contacts for self as well as for the Executive Director, Chief Development Officer and Vice President for Development; develops and implements personal cultivation plans for Packards’ Circle donors. Identifies Packard Circle prospects from lower levels and, working with Annual Funds and Membership/Communication Managers, provides cultivation strategies for these individuals including mailings and personal contact.  Proposes gift ask amounts and prepares progress reports on donor relations/cultivation goals, strategies and revenue/retention outcomes.

3.       Manages production of annual review and Packards’ Circle Honor Roll.

4.       Oversees Senior Development Assistant’s coordination of major donor events including Board Dinners, Leadership Council events and planned giving events and seminars including invitations, RSVPs, event logistics and reports. Works closely with Annual Funds Manager regarding Packards’ Circle receptions for previews and Executive Director’s Forum.

5.      Manages the planned giving program including the marketing plan, cultivation, acknowledgements, events, seminars, recognition and benefits; prepares Shorelines copy and produces print and online copy and materials. 

6.       Implements personal cultivation plans for members who have requested planned giving information and provides a high level of regular, personal contact with Ocean Legacy donors. 

7.       Prepares gift annuity illustrations and agreements; manages all records and works closely with finance staff to ensure proper accounting for estate gifts and licensing requirements. Oversees Senior Development Assistant’s administrative support for this program.

8.       Manages all aspects of vendor management (including web site support) for planned giving program including proposals, contracts and reports.

9.       Working with the Membership/Communication Manager and Supervisor, develops an on line and direct mail communication plan for Packards’ Circle and planned giving donors and prospects.

10.   Working with the Annual Fund and Membership/Communications Managers, assists in the preparation of the annual development communications plan to increase support, contributions, planned gifts and build the membership and online programs; meet regularly to update and evaluate efforts.

11.   Provides training and coaching to staff on courtesy calls to members and donors.

12.   Answers phones and models departmental standards for customer service.

13.   Assists with special projects, as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

Minimum four year degree or higher

Three or more years experience in development/fundraising with direct experience working with donors

Must have a successful fundraising track record and demonstrated ability to plan and execute a major gifts donor cultivation plan

Excellent organizational, customer service, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to articulate the case and mission of the Aquarium and annual priorities to potential donors

Must be willing to travel throughout the Monterey and San Francisco Bay areas

Ability to interact well with people at all levels and work well in a team environment

Ability to work well on multiple, simultaneous projects and deadlines

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and experience with a fundraising data base program

Flexibility to work occasional evening and weekend events
