Includes the development of additive formulation technology for automotive (passenger cars and heavy duty trucks) engine oils. Involves the design and execution of experiments to define additive responses in key performance tests and using this data to create formulations meeting industry requirements. Provide technical support to internal and external customers including problem solving related to engine oils, training, and presentation of data and industry trends. Strong teamwork skills and team leadership skills are required. A working knowledge of internal combustion engine design and operation principles is desired. Background in organic chemistry is a benefit; job will entail developing knowledge on how the chemistry of lubricant additives and base oils impact engine performance. As skill grows the successful applicant will be expected to represent engine oil formulation technology internally to sales and marketing as well as externally to Oronite customers and OEMs. This can entail development of specific formulations to meet unique customer or OEM requirements. Job can entail representation of the company in industry sponsored activities such as ASTM, SAE, and STLE. As expertise grows, publication of technical papers, creation of intellectual property, and presentation of technical findings both in internal and external venues is anticipated.

Qualifications:

Key Responsibilities: • Lead projects through stage gate development processes. • Develop understanding of formulation chemistry of lubricants and impact on engine performance. • Design of research programs related to additive appetite in bench and engine tests in cooperation with global R&D team. • Creation of statistical models based on experimental results and analysis of existing data. • Development of screener tests to simulate full scale engine tests. • Development of engine oil formulations based on application of models and experiments. • Support of marketing and sales teams via presentation of technology topics to COC customers. • Participation in industry activities related to focus area. • Ability to work in a multicultural environment with strong Chevron Way Behaviors. Required Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, Organic Chemistry. • MS or PhD strongly preferred. • Occasional domestic and international travel is expected. Relocation Options: • Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.
