Our Analytical & Environmental Chemistry group in Duxbury MA (AEC Duxbury) specializes in providing analytical chemistry support to research and application projects in areas such as environment, energy, and health. AEC Duxbury is seeking a technically-grounded project manager for full-time support of the Battelle Global Detergent Program (BGDP), which is being transferred from Geneva, Switzerland to the USA in 2008/2009. The BGDP has a 20-year history supplying detergent manufacturers and suppliers of ingredients with analytical data on the composition of major brands of detergents sold in Europe, North America, Asia & Pacific, and Latin America. The selected applicant will be responsible for providing technical leadership, client management, and developing new business. The selected applicant will oversee the BGDP program, ensure that technical work meets high quality standards within schedule and budget, and serve are primary liaison to BGPD clients.

Position Responsibilities

> Serving as Program Manager of the $1 million/y BGDP
> Conducting and delivering BGDP tasks on time and on budget
> Delivering Providing technical leadership and supervision of a ~5 member technical team
> Serving as subject matter expert to the detergent industry
> Assessing analytical data and preparing data reports
> Leading and preparing technical presentations
> Making technical presentations at three annual client meetings in Europe
> Cultivating new clients and developing new business
> Preparing proposals

Required Qualifications

Candidate resumes must demonstrate the following minimum requirements in order to be considered:

> PhD or MS degree in analytical, inorganic or organic chemistry with 4 to 6 years of work experience in the detergent or personal care product industry

Preferred Qualifications

An ideal candidate’s resume will demonstrate outstanding initiative, strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work effectively in commercial research environment. An ideal candidate will have an understanding of the detergent industry, including experience in the quantitative analysis in the following areas:
> Surfactants characterization by GC/MS. FTIR, HPLC, GC
> Builders and fillers determination by IC, ICP, XRF
> Bleaching systems analyses by IC, ICP, GC, redox titration
> Complexing agents determination by IC, GC/MS
> Polymers characterization by GPC, pyrolysis GC/MS
> Solvent systems and hydrotropes characterization by GC, HPLC
> Enzymes determination by enzymatic reaction, UV/VIS spectrophotometry
> Foam control agents characterization by GPC, GC/MS, GC, total nitrogen content
> Physico-chemical measurements (pH, density, viscosity)
