QUALIFICATIONS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Freightliner Engineering has several openings for highly motivated individuals that want to be involved in designing, developing and supporting some of the most technologically advanced systems on trucks, tractors and buses. Opportunities exist for interaction with colleagues around the world as part of the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer. Depending on background and interest, selected individuals will be involved in chassis, powertrain, suspension, hydraulics, stability control systems, engine and transmission electronics, electrical harnesses, instrument clusters, cabs, cab doors, cab mechanisms, HVAC systems, interior components and trim, exterior systems and components, and other aspects of commercial vehicle design, development, and support. REQUIREMENTS: Develop and design vehicle components and systems. Evaluate state of the art technological developments in the vehicle industry and apply the latest advances. Apply theoretical principles and engineering techniques in designing a vehicle that is reliable, serviceable, energy efficient, and competitive. Use programming and modeling techniques in conjunction with mathematical analysis. Provide guidance and training to less experienced design engineers on a day-to-day basis. Provide leadership on smaller design projects. Interface with Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corporation on global component projects. Interface with Test, Analysis, Procurement, Manufacturing, Service, Sales, and Marketing personnel as well as a multi-tier supplier base. Interface with product regulation and compliance personnel to design vehicles that meet government regulations, restrictions, and codes. Support truck manufacturing plants in resolving production issues. Strive for continuous improvement in both processes and products. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline is required. At least 3-5 years of experience in product engineering design is required, preferably in the design and development of systems and components for automotive and commercial vehicles. Personnel must be capable of analyzing designs for function, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as personal computer office automation and presentation skills are required. Experience with documenting designs using computer aided design systems is preferred. The ideal candidate will be a team player and will have experience in interacting with suppliers, vehicle assembly plants, and other engineering groups to resolve issues, identify needs, and translate them into engineering requirements. Fluency in English required. Proficiency in German, Japanese, or Spanish is a plus.
