Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE:

A delivery driver for HD Supply Plumbing/HVAC division is responsible for fulfilling deliveries to customers over a dynamic coverage area. Responsibilities include: driving, route sequencing, order verification, loading and unloading of orders, return service and providing feedback from customers.


MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Meet all company standards and DOT requirements for vehicles and drivers.
Load and unload trucks.
Verify load against shipping manifest.
Prepare route to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient deliveries.
Inspect truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil and water.
Responsible for preventive maintenance on vehicles.
Maintain cleanliness of the inside of the truck.
Perform all task assigned in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
Drive truck to deliver supplies to customer’s place of business.
Maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive expedited delivery instructions.
Immediately communicate delivery, traffic and safety issues to supervisor.
Maintain truck mileage log.
Record sales or delivery information on daily sales and delivery record.
Obtain customer signature on receipt for pickup or delivery.
Builds relationships with customers by providing Exceptional Service with No Exceptions.
Serve as a key field contact for gathering accurate customer service and delivery expectations.
Warehouse responsibilities as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.


NATURE AND SCOPE:

Reports to Branch Manager or Distribution Center Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be twenty-one years of age or older.
Must pass the Drug Test.
Must pass the Background Check.
Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable.


EDUCATION REQUIRED:

A High School degree or equivalent.


YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE:2 - 5


CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:

The associate must have a clean driving record.
Current DMV report and passing a road test are required.


PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

There are intermittent periods during which physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Forklift experience is preferred.
Class A or B CDL license may be required.
Previous experience in commercial driving of a 24 stake/flatbed/box truck or ability to drive 5 speed truck with air brake certification may be required.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:
The ability to maneuver large objects (i.e., range, water heater) with the use of a hand truck.
Ability to be bonded is required.
The ability to read, count accurately, do simple math, and write legibly to ensure the accurate filling of a customer order.
The ability to follow and carry out instructions with minimal supervision is required.
Meet all applicable DOT requirements.
Knowledge of the local driving area, map reading, and route planning.
Strong customer service orientation and problem solving skills.
Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
