Description:Defense Finance and Accounting Service
(DFAS) Specialist
Essential Job Functions
Communicate both written and orally with DFAS personnel, in order to complete funding and accounting actions such as cost transfers and clearing of annual funds (i.e. Operations and Maintenance Army). Rectify accounts and present analysis of budgets to upper management with use of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft programs. Familiarity with DFAS procedures and guidelines. Experience with multiple DFAS financial systems to include SOMARDS, DbCAS, CCaR, MOCAS and RMonline. Contacts with DFAS offices such as DFAS-Rome, DFAS-Indy and DFAS-Columbus a plus.Analyzes proposed plans and policies, as well as new programs, to determine costs and projected profitability. Makes appropriate recommendations to management in order to strengthen business controls, improve operations, and/or reduce costs.
Oversees special financial studies for management in conjunction with recommended or proposed plans.
Supervises the timely and competent analysis of budgets, cash flow, operating results, and business plans to determine rates of return, capital/cash flow requirements, etc.
Supervises the activities of financial analyses staff to ensure that work is completed on a timely basis and that company policies and procedures are followed. Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists employees to resolve problems.
Recommends and/or initiates the selection and hiring of employees. Trains and evaluates employees to enhance their performance, development, and work product. Addresses performance issues and makes recommendations for personnel actions. Makes recommendations for salary increases, transfers and terminations to manager.
Recommends measures to improve processes, employee performance, and quality of service provided to the customer. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet task schedules using knowledge of capabilities of supervised staff. Provides guidance for the timely and accurate delivery of the unit's assignments.
Basic QualificationsBachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, accounting or related field preferred
Six or more years of finance or accounting experience
Three or more years of leadership experience included
Experience working with accounting principles and accounting software and databases
Experience working with financial analysis

Individual must possess a high level of organizational skills, be a self-starter, self-directed, highly motivated and be able to work in a fast-paced complex environment. Must be a team player with strong interpersonal skills, problem solving skills and ability to prioritize activities and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
