DeVry University seeks a Dean of Academic Affairs for the South Florida Metro, which includes a campus in Miramar and University Centers in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.
This position is based at the Miramar campus.
The Dean of Academic Affairs (DAA) is responsible for the management and delivery of the University’s educational and academic support programs. Working closely with the Metro leadership, academic deans, and faculty, the Dean of Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer and is responsible for curricula, development of deans and faculty, and the departmental budget.
Essential functions of this position include
1. Organizes, supervises and directs a professional staff to insure that graduate and undergraduate curricula are current and consistently, effectively delivered
2. Implements curricula in accordance with documented course objectives
3. Creates, coordinates and manages the implementation of new academic programs
4. Develops, implements and monitors all academic assessment programs
5. Provides leadership, direction, and supervision to academic deans, faculty and staff.
6. Recruits and maintains quality high quality academic academic deans, associates, and full time / adjunct instructors.
7. Ensures all faculty are assessed in a fair and impartial manner
8. Provides faculty development opportunities to improve teaching excellence, using current instructional technology and creating a collaborative learning environment
9. Works closely with the Metro President, Campus Deans and other key department personnel
10. Provides orientation, coaching, corrective counseling, and formal recognition for deans and faculty, as needed
11. Provides the resources and expertise necessary to successfully complete the accreditation process with TAC of ABET, North Central Association and other regulatory bodies
12. Prepares departmental budget and controls direct cost expenses for all Metro locations
13. Works with Academic Program Deans to insure the development of annual instructional assignment plans for faculty in accordance with faculty policies and the Metro instructional needs
14. Assures students are provided support services to maintain the highest level of student achievement while safeguarding the integrity of the educational process
15. Develops annual schedules for site-based instructional delivery in the Metro
16. Analyzes student attrition and retention data; works with other campus leaders to develop initiatives to improve retention
17. Works with deans, registrar and other staff to ensure efficient class scheduling, transcript evaluations, progressions, academic counseling and completion of graduation requirements
18. Insures proper administration of and adherence to academic policies including attendance, academic progress and academic integrity
Education, experience, knowledge and skills required for this position include:
1. Masters Degree in Education or related discipline required; Ph.D. strongly preferred
2. Minimum of 5 (five) years of senior level experience in academic administrative experience is required (or equivalent managerial skills and demonstrated leadership in the area of academic programs)
3. Budget management experience is required
4. Successful experience as a faculty member is preferred
5. Strong leadership and human relations skills that promote dedication, team orientation, creativity, and growth required
6. Strong communication skills required; ability to communicate effectively with employees, faculty, staff, and community groups.
7. Must be flexible, possess high energy level, and promote a collaborative team-oriented environment
