Position Details:

Under the supervision of the Administrative Director and day to day direction of the Cardiac Surgery Data/outcomes manager, perform accurate data collection, analysis and reporting to support and maintain the division’s mandated reporting database. Work autonomously and with the cardiac surgery team to abstract, collect and analyze clinical information and outcomes data for cardiac surgery patients. The data is used for internal review as well as to satisfy the reporting requirements MAS-DAC -Massachusetts Department of Public health and the Society of Thoracic Surgery , Reporting requirements are time sensitive and inaccurate or delayed reporting of data may incur a penalty to the department.

Data Collection:

Responsible for collection of data for mandated reporting for MAS-DAC -Massachusetts Department of Public health and the Society of Thoracic Surgery

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Help manages and maintains the cardiac surgery databases— Department Database (Apollo) Respond to request for data from cardiac surgeons/research Review online and paper medical records of cardiac surgery patients to retrieve detailed medical information such as diagnosis, type of surgery, complications, medications, and procedure / treatment success over time. Abstracts and integrates clinical data from clinicians for multiple points of service for all cardiac surgery patients (i.e. clinician input at point of care, clinical information system, “CCC”, clinic follow up forms, chart review). Continuously monitor data to ensure that format is correct, accurate, complete and reflective of the care elements provided. Develops and uses queries to validate and audit clinical and operational data against administrative databases.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree preferred or three plus years of experience in a medical setting and/or clinical trials required Knowledge of medical terminology Working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Access, MS Word, MS Powerpoint Attention to detail Ability to work autonomously Problem solving Experience in data analysis and reporting Interest in process improvement, efficiency, and health care quality
