The County of Monterey is currently recruiting for Data Center Operations Technician I-II-III in the Information Technology Department. The Information Technology Department is looking to fill a position within their Data Center which operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Applicants are encouraged to apply for the level of the position they would like to pursue. Applicants may be assigned varying shifts/hours.
The Information Technology Department located near the beautiful Monterey Bay, supports approximately 28 departments extending to over 50 County locations. The Information Technology Department is organized into 4 major areas including Customer Service, Telecommunications, Security and Privacy and Administration. The Engineering Aide III position resides within the Telecommunications area.
The Position:
Under supervision, incumbents in these positions monitor and respond to console messages in a large complex, multi- platform, telecommunication system including an IBM z890 VM/VSE mainframe, AS/400, RS/6000, Windows, VAX and Linux servers and related peripheral equipment, and perform a variety of input/output control work.
Examples of Duties:
· Perform production control work including receipt of work requests, printing of required documentation instructions, revision of job control language (JCL) and submission of jobs to reader queues by use of PCS and ISPF panels.
· Monitor quality of work and distribute output according to written procedures. Keep production records and incident reports. Understand principals of InfoPac and InfoWeb Report Distribution Systems.
· Monitor multi-platform telecommunication system. Respond to malfunctions, abends, abnormalities or emergency situations in Computer Operations.
· Maintain magnetic tape library including selection of tapes for input to jobs and for off site retention; monitor tape library system and jobs; maintain records of tapes sent to or received from other agencies.
Examples of Skill and Ability to:
· Operate various peripheral equipment devices;
· type on a computer keyboard and use an adding machine to balance columns of numbers;
· Read and follow complex written procedures, technical manuals, input documents, job requests and operations documentation;
· Recognize software, operating system or hardware malfunctions;
· Analyze data, gather information from manuals and diagrams and draw logical conclusions and/or take an effective course of action;
· Write clear, concise instructions and explanations;
· Keep accurate records;
· Orally communicate complex, technical concepts to non-technical users;
· Provide excellent and courteous customer service and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
