Job responsibilities will be to lay out, fabricate and assemble corrugated paper cartons and fillers, wood and cardboard boxes and shipping crates. Load, position and secure parts, assemblies, materials, equipment and tooling for shipment.
Previous experience preferred in planning sequence of operations and methods required to pack and crate large, irregularly shaped items and/or costly, precision, fragile or delicate units and mechanisms which require deviation from standard procedure and when standard or stock size boxes and crates cannot be used.
Lay out trim and cutting lines for cutting to size, angles and cutouts by taking measurements directly from items to be shipped for dimensions and locations. Fabricate and assemble shipping boxes, containers and box liners of standard design items where methods and procedures have been established or which require deviation from standard shipping procedure and where standard square or rectangular boxes cannot be used by cutting lumber to size and nailing, drilling holes and bolting, strapping, installing springs and reinforcing using carpenter hand tools, rules, measuring tapes, squares, woodworking machine tools and drill presses.
Pack and crate standardized or large irregularly shaped items and/or costly, precision, fragile or delicate units which require deviation from standard shipping procedure and where standard square or rectangular boxes cannot be used by blocking, tying down, padding, strapping, securing and bracing contents in freight carriers, cars or trucks. Check parts against sheets to ensure shipment of all items listed. Nail down tops, reinforce and strap boxes and crates. Cut and apply stencils and apply exterior markings

A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent education is required.



Minimum 5 years experience with power tools, saws and cutting machines. Must be able to read blue prints.

Candidates must satisfactorily complete pre-employment requirements such as background check, drug screen, and meet the physical requirements of this position.
The Crater & Packer classification is represented by the UAW, Local 887 and has a current bargaining agreement.
