JOB DESCRIPTION:
SUMMARY:
Provides high quality and cost effective staff counsel legal representation in all types of legal proceedings by demonstrating superior knowledge and expertise in the litigation process while providing excellent client service.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews files and develops litigation strategies with the claim customer and insured clients (hereafter collectively referred to as clients).
Effectively completes high quality pleadings, motions, discovery, briefs and memoranda.
Consults with clients, fact and expert witnesses and claim personnel as appropriate throughout the litigation process.
Understands the tri-partite relationship between the claim customer, insured client and attorney.
Works within limits and authority on all cases.
Provides clients with facts, observations, analysis and recommends and pursues litigation strategies which best protect the clients interest in a timely manner.
Effectively evaluates and communicates to the clients the liability risk and indemnity exposure throughout the litigation process.
Communicates effectively and proactively with clients and courts.
Effectively negotiates with adversaries to resolve litigation.
Possesses appropriate trial appetite and skills to litigate cases in state and federal courts and before compensation, industrial, labor and arbitration commissions.
Maintains caseloads and productivity standards set by Managing Counsel.
Completes and submits billed time, reports, closed cases and other materials appropriate to performance of job duties in a timely manner.
Effectively utilizes internal and external resources to assure smooth workflow and cost effectiveness.
Understands claim customers' expectations and business goals and assists them in meeting those goals.
Shares expertise with claim customers and other business partners on legal matters and provides advice and conducts training seminars as needed.
Maintains a high level of knowledge of the law and procedure relevant to the work being handled.
Takes personal responsibility for maintaining high ethical standards and for professional development.
Serves as a role model to staff inspiring others to the highest level of professionalism.
May provide advice to junior attorneys and colleagues as needed.
Perform highly complex trial work.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE:
JD degree. Must have received a law degree from an accredited college/university.
7+ yrs of experience.
Must be a member in good standing of the bar in the State of Louisiana
