Position Summary:

 

An opportunity exists for an ambitious professional to perform various cost accounting & business analyses supporting the Assistant Controller for the Asheville,  NC, facilities in the Laboratory Equipment Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific. The Laboratory Equipment Division produces freezers, incubators, vacuum concentration and centrifuge equipment for pharmaceutical, biotech, academia, and clinical research markets. This position offers the right candidate an influential seat at the table of a growing and dynamic technology segment and will provide substantial opportunity for career development and growth.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Assist in month-end closing responsibilities for the site. Perform maintenance and updating of cost accounting system. Support Plant productivity analysis and Operations data requirements. Drive continuous improvement and efficiencies into finance processes that relate to Operations. Assist in yearly physical inventory and cycle-counting programs to eliminate need for PI. Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts. Assist in year-end financial and Sarbanes-Oxley audits. Insure compliance with GAAP and Corporate policies. Drive continuous improvement and standardization within the functional area.  Ensure adequate internal controls are maintained to safeguard company assets, provide accurate financial records and achieve standards consistent with Sarbanes Oxley 404 requirements while collaterally evaluating the sites financial and information systems, management procedures and internal controls to ensure that records are accurate and controls are adequate and in compliance with corporate policies and procedures. Perform special projects, ad-hoc financial reporting and other duties as assigned. Assist with financial analyses to support management decision-making.

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

 

·         Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

·         3-5 years of progressive experience in general accounting.

·         CMA or MBA certification is desired.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

·         Expert use of MS Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access)

·         Experience in a manufacturing environment desired.

·         Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

·         Dependable, flexible, and a team player.

·         Self motivated with high bias for action.

·         Demonstrated history of driving businesses to improve processes and performance.

·         Understand and be willing to commit to meeting the month end close and various project timetables.
