The Corporate Staff Attorney reports directly to the General Counsel on a variety of corporate, marketing, regulatory and compliance matters. Primary duties include directing the activities of the Compliance Department to ensure that state, federal and international laws and regulations are followed by the company’s independent consultants in the US, Canada and international markets in accordance with company policies and procedures. Position will also include identifying and assessing compliance risks that may affect the ability of the company to achieve objectives; backing up a contracts attorney with drafting and review of contracts and other agreements on behalf of the company; legal research; and handling varied legal matters involving the Compliance Department. The candidate should set objectives, tone, policies and accountabilities for the Compliance Department to ensure adherence with laws and regulations, internal policies and procedures and stakeholder commitment.
Primary Position Responsibilities
Performs assigned tasks directed by the General Counsel. Responsible for directing activities of Compliance Department in accordance with direct selling case law, international and domestic laws and regulations applicable to the company’s business model, commission plan and products, and company policies and procedures. Will set objectives, and direct and provide high level oversight to Compliance Department’s case managers, analysts and compliance administrator. Regularly handle sensitive issues facing the Corporation and the Legal Department by effectively and efficiently utilizing resources such as other lawyers, paralegals, administrative personnel and outside counsel or experts if required. Exercise due care in delegation of authority and responsibility to Compliance Department employees. Act as a director for the delivery of critical legal services to the General Counsel relating to company compliance with state, federal and international laws and regulation. Consistently reveal familiarity with and commitment to the business objectives of the company by a complete understanding of company’s sales and compensation plan, policies and procedures. Able to take an ambiguous assignment, formulate a plan of resolution and carry it through in an effective manner. Comply with the ethical standards of the profession. Viewed as a major resource in the Company’s compliance process.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials. (Top 50% of class.) Admission to the California bar within a reasonable time after graduation. Should have 7 or more years experience as a practicing attorney. Large firm background a plus. Experience in drafting and reviewing contracts and commercial transactions. Should have a general and broad background in one of corporate, employment, litigation, IP, or contract law. Superior analytical, problem solving, and written and oral communication skills are a must. International experience or multilingual a benefit. Education
Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctorate
