Seeking a small company CONTROLLER for an opportunity at a private, family-owned business in San Jose. The company prides itself on it expertise in land management and development and in the long-term management of its portfolio. An ASSISTANT CONTROLLER who is ready to move up in their career into this challenge will be considered. This position is truly "hands-on" and will be responsible for the accounting function of the property management arm of this company. The controller will be a reliable source for analysis and review of current and future business operations. The role also overlaps into selected accounting, estate and tax reporting matters for family members. The position reports directly to the owners. Tax experience is preferred as it is hoped that the successful applicant will prepare quarterly tax plans for family members based on business results and perform annual trust income tax planning. This qualification can be waived for a sharp applicant who can be trained into this function. An ideal candidate will come with some supervisory experience as this position will supervise an Accounts Payable Clerk and General Accounting Clerk. Additionally, the position is in charge of staffing for turnover, all hiring and firing and reviews. The position is responsible for general ledger maintenance for real estate and other business and investment limited partnerships, limited liability companies and corporations and a separate general ledger for personal expenditures and related transactions for selected family members including interfacing with them on a daily basis. The controller will prepare financial statements and other financial information for use by outside CPA's and attorneys to prepare most of the approximately 70 annual income and gift tax returns filed as well as financial statements for internal use, monthly and annual reports, both businesses and trusts.
