Dole Fresh Vegetables, based in Monterey, California, is the nation's leading producer of packaged salads as well as a major grower and harvester of vegetable commodity products. The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer for Dole Fresh Vegetables, Inc., (DFV) a $1 billion (revenue) division of Dole Food Company. DFV is an industry leader in the production and sale of whole produce and packaged salads sourced primarily from the California Coastal growing region. The controller is based at DFV headquarters in Monterey, CA and oversees a staff of 35. Financial Reporting & Compliance ' Oversee all aspects of financial reporting for the division, including but not limited to: o Period consolidation and financial statement preparation by product line. o Preparation of corporate financial templates for income statement and balance sheet metrics. o Preparation of tax packages and for federal, state and local taxes. o Administration of balance sheet reserves and provisions for medical insurance, general liability insurance, workers compensation, property taxes, etc. o Preparation and review of division financial information for quarterly and annual SEC reporting. ' Develop and maintain external and internal relationships o Manage the relationship with the corporate controller on issues such as new GAAP pronouncements and their applicability to DFV, company-wide policies and procedures, SEC compliance, etc. o Manage the relationship with the company's independent auditors (D&T), including oversight of the quarterly reviews and year-end audit. o Manage the relationship with the company's internal audit department, and prioritize, coordinate and manage ongoing reviews. ' Establish, implement and maintain effective internal controls throughout this decentralized organization. o Coordinate and oversee compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley. o Develop and maintain policies and procedures appropriate for a large, vertically integrated and geographically dispersed organization. o Maintain expertise in applicable accounting principles and ensure that new accounting guidance is appropriately considered and implemented. Transaction Processing and Shared Services ' Hourly Payroll Department ' total staff of 10 which oversees payroll processing for approximately 5,000 hourly employees across four states. ' Credit and Collections Department ' total staff of 13 which oversees accounts receivable management, credit and collections and sales allowance administration. ' Accounts Payable Department ' total on-site staff of 2, plus a dedicated staff of 12 at a shared services center located in San Juan, Costa Rica. Forecasting, Budgeting and Financial Planning ' In partnership with the Director of Business Planning and Analysis oversee key aspects of: o Period Financial Forecasts (done every four weeks). Provide forecast information for all G&A areas of the business as well as key working capital drivers (accounts receivable, inventory, accounts payable and accrued liability including grower payable). o Annual Budgeting Manage the budget development of all G&A areas of the business along with analysis of changes in the business and key variances versus the prior year. o Financial Planning & Analysis Review and approve all capital expenditures, grower advances and leases. Analyze customer and product profitability, business process improvement and participate in initiatives to improve profitability. Change Management ' Improve business processes and lead change management programs, for example: o Hourly Payroll ' DFV is in the process of converting from a home-grown hourly payroll program to an outsourced program. The controller is one of a handful of executives (the others are in Information Technology and Human Resources) who are responsible for the successful execution of the conversion process. o Shared Services ' Dole Food Company has centralized processes that lend themselves to centralization as with accounts payable in Costa Rica. The controller is responsible for participating on company-wide implementation teams to set the right priorities for future initiative and oversee successful implementation for DFV. o Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) ' Dole Food Company is evaluating converting to a company-wide ERP. The controller will be a lead player in the successful implementation of the ERP at DFV. o Financial Processes ' As with many large and evolving businesses, some financial processes and systems at DFV are no longer the most optimal. The controller will be a key executive in the identification, assessment and remediation of such processes and systems. REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION: EDUCATION: Finance, accounting or related undergraduate degree and CPA designation, an MBA or advanced degree is a plus. SKILLS: Strong analytical, operational, organizational and interpersonal aptitude. Excellent oral and written communication skills across multiple executive and management levels. Ability to act as a driver of change across the organization. Strong intellect, solid business sense and the judgment to serve as a senior leader. Ability to build relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization and gain cross-functional buy-in across diverse product lines and departments. Demonstrated track record of recruiting and developing talent. Quick study, with curiosity and a high level of energy and commitment. Highest level of integrity with an appreciation and passion for the goals of the company and as well as personal achievement. EXPERIENCE: Ten or more years in accounting management positions with a combination of 'big four' public accounting and controllership experience at a division or corporate office of an equivalent company. Exposure to SEC reporting, strong GAAP expertise and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Experience using an integrated financial reporting system such as Oracle, SAP, JDE, PeopleSoft, etc., business intelligence tools such as Cognos or Hyperion and MS Office suite. RESPOND HERE!
