Position reports to CFO of $1 billion (revenue) division of leading consumer packaged goods corp., industry leader in its field. Division and Position based in desirable coastal resort area of Northern California, and oversees a staff of 35. Responsibilities include:
Financial Reporting & Compliance - Oversee all aspects of financial reporting for the division, including but not limited to:
Period consolidation and financial statement preparation by product line.Preparation of corporate financial templates for income statement and balance sheet metrics.Preparation of tax packages and for federal, state and local taxes.Administration of balance sheet reserves and provisions for medical insurance, general liability insurance, workers compensation, property taxes, etc.Preparation and review of division financial information for quarterly and annual SEC reporting.Develop and maintain external and internal relationshipsManage the relationship with the corporate controller on issues such as new GAAP pronouncements and their applicability to the Division, company-wide policies and procedures, SEC compliance, etc.Manage the relationship with the company’s independent auditors, including oversight of the quarterly reviews and year-end audit.Manage the relationship with the company’s internal audit department, and prioritize, coordinate and manage ongoing reviews.Establish, implement and maintain effective internal controls throughout this decentralized organization.Coordinate and oversee compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.Develop and maintain policies and procedures appropriate for a large, vertically integrated and geographically dispersed organization.Maintain expertise in applicable accounting principles and ensure that new accounting guidance is appropriately considered and implemented.Transaction Processing and Shared Services
· Management and oversight of various shared services and outsourced transaction processing activities.
Forecasting, Budgeting and Financial Planning
· In partnership with the Director of Business Planning, oversee key aspects of:
Period Financial Forecasts (done every four weeks). Provide forecast information for all G&A areas of the business as well as key working capital drivers (accounts receivable, inventory, accounts payable and accrued liability including other payables).Annual Budgeting - Manage the budget development of all G&A areas of the business along with analysis of changes in the business and key variances versus the prior year.Financial Planning & Analysis - Review and approve all capital expenditures, advances and leases. Analyze customer and product profitability, business process improvement and participate in initiatives to improve profitability.Change Management
Improve business processes and commitment to continuous improvement. Oversight and successful conversion to Shared Services initiatives.
The controller will be a lead player in evaluating, converting and the successful implementation to a company-wide ERP system.
Qualifications and Experience
Ten or more years in accounting management positions with a combination of “big four” public accounting and controllership experience in $ billion divisions or corporations,
Exposure to SEC reporting, strong GAAP expertise and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
Finance, accounting or related undergraduate degree and CPA designation required. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Experience using an integrated financial reporting system such as Oracle, SAP, JDE, PeopleSoft, etc., plus business intelligence tools such as Cognos or Hyperion and MS Office suite.
