ALSTOM Power Inc., a world leader in the supply of power generation services and equipment, is seeking a Condition Assessment Field Engineering Coordinator for its Boiler & Environmental Plant Services group, which is part of the Power Services Sector located in Windsor, CT.
Condition Assessment encompasses the analysis of parts, components, assemblies, subassemblies and systems, and the review of associated drawings and workscope.
Under limited direction, perform a variety of complex engineering assignments requiring in-depth knowledge of a specific engineering discipline plus an understanding of related disciplines to cost effectively achieve objectives. Assignments typically require the use of advanced and innovative techniques. Proactively seek and implement initiatives to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction.
Typical duties/responsibilities for engineering may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Analyze, and evaluate boilers systems, products or components, requiring a high degree of technical expertise.
Design and develop complex models or simulations and apply advanced computer programs, analytical techniques or control strategies to effectively meet requirements and resolve problems. Special emphasis will be in the areas of boiler condition assessment studies and boiler performance/process design engineering, which include the following tasks:
· Coordinate with Proposal developer on job scope and engineering report writing estimates.
· Coordinate with NDE group the job scope and site visit report output
· Act as liaison between the Field Group, Metallurgical and other Lab reports to determine remaining life and make recommendations accordingly
· Publish and distribute the final report incorporating the various groups' inputs
· Interface with customer on results of report as needed
Provide Engineering and job support to the Condition Assessment Group in response to issues related to Utility, Industrial, HRSG and Pulp & Paper units.
Support business units in development and execution of engineering studies and project type work for Utility units. This may involve some travel for site visits and proposal presentations depending on work flow and business units' needs.
Pressure Parts/Auxiliary Support including recommending material upgrades and substitutions, resolving code compliance issues, establish parts upgrades for pressure parts and non-burner/pulverizer auxiliaries.
Act as principal investigator or lead a group of engineers investigating problems, developing solutions and preparing related recommendations and reports.
Represent the group in meetings and conferences; interact with customers to resolve significant technical issues and develop related action plans.
As required, responsible for technical direction and minor administrative guidance of a small group of field personnel, engineers and assistants.
COMPLEXITY OF TASKS:
Requires thorough knowledge of a specific engineering discipline plus an understanding of related disciplines to coordinate activities, analyze and resolve problems crossing disciplines and to develop new concepts for programs. Technical input, recommendations and decisions may impact the organization's effectiveness and customer relations. Requires ability to interface effectively, internally and with customers.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Chemical engineering or Mechanical Technology
• 3 to 5 years of boiler related design or inspection/operating experience.
• Knowledge of Utility, Industrial, Chemical Recovery, HRSG boiler components, design and operation is preferred.
• Alternatively, a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments.
• Candidate must have the legal right to live and work in the U.S.
