TITLE: Computer Operator
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager
DEPARTMENT: Operations
SUPERVISES: 0 employees
Position Summary: The Computer Operator must be able to carry out all phases of operations in the Primary Data Center in Charleston, WV. Individual must be able to work independently and rotate shift to cover the 24 hours/7 days a week operation. Individual must also be able to work from the backup data center in Fairmont when necessary.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Essential and important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, successful implementation and development of the following:
· Operate and monitor all systems and related peripheral devices within specified guidelines.
· Be able and prepare to switch the Online from one system to another within a moments notice.
· Make sure night jobs are executed in a timely manner to ensure that system is ready by 6:00 a.m.
· Monitor and maintain integrity of system/facility as prescribed. Report any abnormality or problem to the appropriate person.
· Produce various on-line/off-line reports.
· Understand and be able to perform general maintenance routines as specified.
· Operate and maintain security equipment as required while on shift.
· Complete documentation as outlined.
· Be involved in testing the integrity of new software as required.
· Provide Hotline Support for West Virginia Lottery Retailer’s and SG Field Service staff during prescribed periods.
o General Hotline:
§ Troubleshoot lottery terminal equipment via telephone.
§ Maintain a high clear by phone rate.
§ Disposition all calls into the REMS database.
§ Handle a high call volume.
o Dispatch:
§ Dispatch field technicians to service calls within the allocated response time.
§ Track installations and removals of equipment.
§ Maintain spreadsheet information to contact and track field technicians.
§ Make follow-up service calls to retailers with corrective service the previous day.
o Network:
§ Identify failures in the West Virginia Lottery DDS Network via TWIN.
§ Coordinate repair of lottery network failures with network vendor.
§ Troubleshoot with field technicians to resolve network related problems at the retailer’s site.
§ Assemble and distribute reports daily on the duration time of line outages.
· Maintain a solid working knowledge of all aspects of the SG central system application.
· Other assigned duties.
Position Requirements:
· High school education. Operations experience or formal computer operator training obtained through an accredited institution, or equivalent. Prior knowledge of SG Computer operations is highly desirable.
· Must be computer literate.
· Strong problem solving skills.
· Experience with Unix, Windows NT, 2000, XP a plus.
· Prior work experience in an operational environment preferred.
· Good communication skills, both written and oral.
· Good interpersonal, customer, and interdepartmental communication skills.
· Ability to prioritize tasks, and handle high priority tasks with a sense of urgency.
· Prior experience in the lottery environment is a plus.
· Travel up to 5%
