OVERALL OBJECTIVE AND PURPOSE: 24x365 operational support of our product development and systems integration teams, our lottery operations and customers, monitor GTECH’s enterprise infrastructure and escalate issues as required.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in the daily operation of computer systems.  Carry out all tasks on the daily checklist under supervision. Generate reports required. Assist in verifying the validity and clarity of computer reports and other output before releasing it from Computer Operations.  Report all hardware problems to Senior Computer Operator or Computer Operations Supervisor.  Take appropriate follow-up action on all customer queries under supervision.  Report incidents to more senior personnel as appropriate. Assist in the recovery activities necessary to restore normal operations.  Follow the correct escalation procedures within Computer Operations and other Departments who are inter-dependent.  Provide training to new employees as required.  Provide support to senior computer operators as required.  Provide Software Hotline coverage

Complexity: Functions Responsible for or Influenced: Low / Moderate operation of many operating systems and applications 

Diversity: Locations Responsible for or Influenced: Low responsible for single location 

Typical Job Problems and Difficulties: Works all holidays as shift requires (24x365 operation), works 12.5 hour shift on two week rotation, works alone for portion of night shift (7PM to 7AM), escalates issues to engineers that may not respond

MANAGEMENT: 

Job Reports to (direct): Section Manager Operations. 

Indirect Reports (influenced): Assists in mentoring new Computer Operator I employees.

GENERAL: Extent decisions governed by procedures or referred: High majority of actions dictated by policy / procedure or must be escalated to senior computer operator or management for resolution.

Standard requirements for research and analysis: Occasional 1st tier troubleshooting of problems, initial diagnosis if capable. 

Opportunity and consequence of typical errors (supervision): Moderate / High Software Hotline issues must be escalated as required by contract to avoid liquidated damages for lottery system downtime, Satellite systems process live lottery transactions. 

Frequent with moderate complexity: contact 24x7 with most software engineers and managers as well as Enterprise Systems staff.

Frequency and complexity of external business contacts: Moderate with moderate / high impact deal with GTECH customers / issues daily. 

Physical (% time: travel, operating machinery, environmental etc.): Minimal physical requirements low travel, work in environmentally controlled computer room.

Requirements:

EDUCATION:  Minimum education - Two year technical college degree or comparable experience. 

YEARS EXPERIENCE: 6-12 months experience in computer operations.
