The Pine Tree State Arboretum is seeking candidates for the position of Community Outreach Director. This is the key position in a cooperative partnership between the Pine Tree State Arboretum and the Maine Forest Service and serves under the direction of the Executive Director of the Pine Tree State Arboretum. The position requires 40 hours per week with some flexibility and statewide travel. Headquarters are in Augusta at the offices of the Pine Tree State Arboretum. The Community Outreach Director is responsible for community outreach, foundation grant writing, and data and information management.

Experience, Education and Skills Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing or other relevant field.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience in writing grant proposals or other fundraising materials helpful.
Ability to use good judgment, take initiative and make recommendations
Available for travel.
Knowledge of and experience with state philanthropic communities highly desirable.
Strong interest in and commitment to urban and community forestry
Demonstrated experience with Windows based word processing, spreadsheets and databases.

In addition, familiarity with arboriculture, Maine geography and local government is desirable but not essential.
