Clinical/Staff Pharmacist Positions
CHRISTUS Spohn Health System is located in beautiful Corpus Christi, Texas, just minutes from the shores of Padre Island. We are the premier provider of health services to South Texans with six hospital campuses, a network of family health centers, the CHRISTUS Spohn Cancer and Heart Institute.
We are currently going through a growing period where things will be changing dramatically within our pharmacy. We need you to come and bring your ideas and help us pioneer a new Residency program.
Texas A&M Kingsville opened up a pharmacy school two years ago and they will be graduating their first class in two years. We are going to be their primary teaching hospitals and we have big plans for the next 2-3 years. We are going to begin a new Residency program; in order for us to begin this program we need to train new pharmacists to come on board as Clinical/Staff Pharmacists.
The initial part of the training would concentrate on staffing to include order entry, IV preparation and checking, and other aspects of the day-to-day functions of a hospital pharmacy. Over time, training would involve clinical skills assessment and application of those skills. We will be developing a residency program over the next 2-3 years and part of the accreditation process, and part of our job, includes ensuring the preceptors of the residents have the skills necessary to adequately train them. We have not established a time line for this determination yet. We expect our staff to function as decentralized clinical staff pharmacists. This includes rounding, order entry, and rotating shifts. We will not be able to say precisely how all of this will be divided up until we are closer to becoming fully staffed.
Our main goal is to become fully decentralized and have Pharmacists on all nursing units within 2-3 years. We expect them to train and learn simultaneously with nurses, doctors, and patients. I hope this information helps you to make an informed decision on your future employment.
Job Requirements: Graduate from an accredited College of Pharmacy Current Texas Registered Pharmacist License (RPh) in good standing with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good organizational, interpersonal, and computer skills.
