Work will require travel about the State and nationally, for example Atlanta, several times per year. Work may require transporting (sealed) microbiological specimens.

POSITION 
SUMMARY:

The Clinical Research Manager will report to the faculty Principal investigator for the Emerging Infections Program (EIP). The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Maintaining the statewide surveillance process, including negotiating agreements with laboratories, hospitals, and infection control practitioners throughout the state; Supervising the surveillance teams (approximately five people), including operations in the border counties and with the Indian Health Service; Managing data collection; Information transmission to the Department of Health; Storage and security of records; and Overseeing surveillance audits and quality control. Surveillance will involve obtaining clinical and demographic information on identified cases and arranging for transfer of microbiological specimens to designated reference laboratories.

The selected individual will be responsible for the implementation of research protocols for special projects, including participation in study design, management of enrollment of study subjects, data collection and analysis. Together with the faculty Principal Investigator, this position will represent the FoodNet portion of the New Mexico's EIP to the CDC and other network states.

With the funding of the EIP, New Mexico becomes the tenth state to participate in a national network conducting active surveillance for clinical cases due to invasive bacterial infections and food borne infections caused by specified pathogens. In addition to statewide surveillance, NM's EIP will participate in special research projects developed and carried in collaboration with the CDC and other EIP network states. The project is a collaboration between the Institute for Public Health at the School of Medicine and the Department of Health.

MINIMUM 
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in area relevant to Public Health research or equivalent experience Experience with (as demonstrated in application): Infectious disease epidemiology and population-based surveillance Project management, including supervision Implementation of research protocols Clinical care in infectious disease Negotiating data-sharing agreements with laboratories, hospitals, and infection control practitioners Managing research data collection and organizing data for statistical analysis Overseeing Public Health performance, compliance audits, and quality control

CONDITIONS OF 
EMPLOYMENT:

Successful candidate must submit to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check. Once hired, periodic checks will be made for eligibility of continued employment.Successful candidate may be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening; UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
