Responsibilities
Responsible for all HIM Coding Special Projects including, but not limited to: reviewing records and writing appeal letters to IPRO, Recovery Audit Contractors (RAC) and third party payors; coordinating retrospective audit reviews ensuring the integrity and compliance of data in accordance with regulatory standards and hospital revenue initiatives. Participates in revenue cycle initiatives providing expertise in the area of coding and classification systems, and the impact on reimbursement. CCS required. RHIT/RHIA preferred. 3-5 years Health Information Management experience essential, preferably in an acute care, computerized environment. 2-3 years demonstrated coding experience required. Good interpersonal skills required. Excellent communication and supervisory skills required Demonstrated knowledge of ICD-9-CM, CPT4, HCPCS and applicable DRG grouper coding schemes essential. Understands documentation parameters affecting complete and accurate coding and the impact of documentation on correct reimbursement, compliance and regulatory standards. Experience in working with medical records in an electronic environment preferred.
