PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Performs professional drainage engineering work involving the review and design of infrastructure within Adams County for compliance with the local, state, and federal regulations regarding drainage, floodplains, and stormwater quality.
EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Participate, oversee and guide county and regional drainage master planning studies and projects.
Participate, oversee and guide the county and the regional flood hazard delineation studies and flood protection projects.
Oversee the County’s compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and issue permits regarding development in the floodplain.
Oversee, review, and keep records of the Letter of Map Revisions and the Conditional Letter of Map Revisions. This includes the review of hydraulic modeling and calculations.
Participate in the County’s compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System .
Prepare permits for compliance with the state and federal environmental regulations.
Prepare special engineering studies and reports. Perform special assignments on engineering drainage problems as necessary. Prepare specific studies and perform calculations.
Provide public support to developers, builders, contractors and the general public pertaining to County drainage, floodplain and environmental regulations.
Respond to inquires relative to drainage engineering policies and procedures on specific projects or drainage complaints.
Exercise professional engineering judgment in accordance with current accepted practice of civil engineering and appropriate laws and codes.
Prepare requests for proposals and bids; review contract bids and proposals; assist in the coordination and review of consultants design work.
Participate in the initial planning of projects to be proposed and make recommendations to assist assigned management staff in establishing schedules and budgets.
Review development plans, specifications and other planning applications for the appropriate drainage design of infrastructure.
Design the necessary modifications and/or new construction for public works drainage and related projects.
Attend public meetings and other sessions of various committees as needed.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience.
Education and Training - Bachelors degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
License or Certificates - Possession of an Engineer Intern (EI) certification.
Background check: Must pass a criminal (CBI) background check.
Other: Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Drivers License.
