Clovis, NM

The City of Clovis, New Mexico, is seeking an experienced and visionary leader for Chief of Police. The Department has a staff of 87 sworn and non-sworn personnel and an operating budget of $7.1 million. This position also oversees the Animal Control Department, which has a staff of 4.

The successful candidate must bring experience to an organization that is undergoing change and growth, as well as the following qualifications: (1) High school diploma and bachelor’s degree from an accredited university majoring in police science, criminal justice, police administration or closely related field. (2) A minimum of ten years of law enforcement experience with a minimum of three to five years in a command position. (3) A New Mexico law enforcement certification or ability to obtain certification within one year after appointment. (4) Additional specialized training, such as FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute or Northwestern University is desired. (5) Demonstrated skills in the following areas: personnel management, budgeting, community policing, investigation and community relations. (6) Demonstrated ability to work with various community leaders and local officials. (7) Knowledge of communications systems, desktop computer networks, word processing, statistical methods, spreadsheets, e-mail and Internet. (8) Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws, including labor laws, and familiarity and/or experience in Collective Bargaining. (9) Knowledge and experience in the operations and budgeting of Animal Control. (10) Must have or be able to obtain a valid New Mexico driver’s license.
