We are currently looking for a Chief Executive Officer for our organization. An executive position reporting to the SC BIO Board of Governors. The CEO will successfully direct the SC BIO program to identify, develop, and nurture life science companies in South Carolina. Specific activities of the program include commercialization of biotechnology research from South Carolina research centers, develop emerging companies, support infrastructure development for the biotechnology industry in South Carolina, assist with recruitment of life science companies, and facilitate growth of existing biotechnology initiatives in the state.
The position requires strong leadership, communication, and collaborative building skills. A background in business development and biotechnology are necessary. The desired educational background, experience and skills include:
- BA or BS Degree from four-year accredited college or university required
- Advanced technical degree, MBA or equivalent industry experience is preferred
- Knowledge of biotechnology and related fields
- Experience in development of life science companies
- Government relations, public policy, and lobbying experience
- Proven track-record in the biotechnology industry
- Experience in written communications and executive report writing
- Strong verbal and written skills
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Adhere to the mission and goals of SC BIO.
2. Establish primary goals of the Board of Governors.
3. Manage annual budget, securing assets and financial strength of the program.
4. Identify and address risks and opportunities for the company.
5. Identify top goals for the company for the current month, quarter and year.
6. Ensure the company is in compliance with all required regulatory and licensing agencies.
7. Identify potential clients and their possible impact on revenue, expenses, and political standing within the community.
8. Visit all branch offices and evaluate their needs, performance, personnel and cost-effectiveness on a periodic basis.
9. Develop government relations and public affairs.
10. Report to the Board: the objective status, evaluation, recommended modifications to short-term planning and any cash needs.
11. Provide employees with feedback on their job performance and development opportunities.
12. Provide employees with the necessary tools to accomplish their tasks.
13. Ensure open communication throughout the company.
14. Represent the public image of the company in communities across South Carolina and the nation.

The South Carolina Biotechnology Incubator Program (SC BIO) is a not-for-profit corporation that utilizes the payroll program of Greenwood County. The South Carolina Biotechnology Incubator Program develops and administrates all employee rules and guidelines including but not limited to hiring, termination, benefits and all other rules or guidelines in the workplace regardless of procedures, rules or guidelines established by Greenwood County and is an “at will” employer.
