Job Description

POSITION ~ CHEF MANAGER

LOCATION ~ SPARTANBURG, SC

The Chef Manager is responsible for the success of both the culinary and food service operation in an independent school and reports to the District Manager. Serves as the primary chef for culinary operations and manager overseeing dining operations, with duties that include the food production of student, faculty meals and catering.

Recipe to Succeed:

Supervisory, leadership, management and coaching skillsGood communication skills both written and verbal

Ability to communicate on various levels to include management, customers, client, and associates

Proficient in menu development, cost controls, purchasing and inventory. Ability to perform various motor skills such as; lifting, reaching, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, squatting, grasping and arm-hand coordination on a continuous basisAbility to multi-task as well as stay on task and concentrate with constant interruptionsAbility to get along well with others, to demonstrate flexibility and patience, to work as a member of a team Culinary creativity and menu writing abilitiesExhibit courtesy, tact and reasonable speed in performance of duties

Adheres to HACCP guidelines to ensure efficient, safe and sanitary food production, preparation and presentation.

Necessary Ingredients:

Culinary degree preferred or equivalent years of experienceMinimum of three (3) to five (5) years of culinary management experience in contract foodservice, fine dining setting, or restaurant with inventory and purchasing knowledge and controlMust have prior experience with cash handling and financials/budgetsGood knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation Knowledge of P&L accountability and contract-managed service experience is desirableExperience working in a school dining environment is strongly preferredStrong client and customer skills requiredServSafe certified requiredMust be able to pass criminal background check
