Description Bureau Veritas (BV) has openings for a Certified Welding Inspector in multiple Pennsylvania locations. Position Location(s): Lancaster, Williamsport, and Pittsburgh, PA Reports to: Project Manager, Pittsburgh Position type: Hourly, full time, benefited This position involves providing quality assurance inspection services to our clients, primarily in the areas of new structural steel and aluminum fabrication. This position will report directly to the Project Manager in the Pittsburgh office. Duties and Responsibilities The duties of this position will include: • Reviewing and monitoring work and test results, interpreting specifications for fabricated structural steel, and determining procedures where standard operations cannot be used; • Inspection is performed with considerable independence but is reviewed and managed by the Supervisor, Civil Engineer and Department of Transportation Staff; • Provide shop inspection services on a variety of projects (primarily bridge components) and other projects as assigned by the Project Manager; • Process both hand written and electronic records of inspection and test data, timesheets, and billing reports in an expeditious and thorough manner; and • Communicate regularly with clients to determine upcoming assignments and potential work that BV could perform. Required Skills Qualifications and Skills Required • Must maintain a valid certified welding inspector (CWI) certificate issued by the American Welding Society. • Must be a high school graduate or hold an equivalent high school (GED) certificate and have a minimum of three (3) years experience in inspection and/or quality assurance/quality control in structural and aluminum steel fabrication. • Must have knowledge of the standards and specifications required in the field of structural steel fabrication to meet current Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Specifications; • Inspectors assigned to witness non-destructive testing must be qualified as Level II ASNT technicians in the appropriate methods of NDT for the shops they are assigned; • Must have ability to read and interpret shop drawings, specifications and other technical information related to structural steel; • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate in English, both speaking and writing; • Effectively operate personal portable computer, Microsoft Word and Access software, digital camera, email, and the internet; • Ability to establish and maintain fair and harmonious working relationship with shop personnel while diligently attending to the required inspection activities; • Client oriented approach with emphasis on understanding and fulfilling the needs of the client; • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation required; • Ability to multi-task and properly execute multiple simultaneous assignments without sacrificing efficiency or quality of the work; and • Team player willing to work with clients, field staff, and other BV offices. Required Experience • Background in DOT related projects including bridge and highway construction. Experience with structural steel and welding required; Experience with the performance and witnessing of non-destructive testing (UT, RT, PT, MT) required; • Certification as a CWI required. Extensive practical experience required; minimum of associates degree or similar educational background preferred;
