Salem Hospitals’ sister Surgical Services department at West Valley Hospital completes approximately 446 surgeries annually, in two surgery suites including, but not limited to, general, orthopedic, and endoscopic procedures. The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) plays a critical role in the daily operations of the Operating Room. The CRNA follows the anesthesia plan and performs specific duties including the following: performing pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation; intra-operative care; maintaining anesthesia at prescribed levels; monitoring and supporting life functions during the perioperative period; recognizing any abnormal patient responses during anesthesia and post-anesthesia care.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A graduate of an accredited, Oregon State Board of Nursing approved nursing program is required. Graduate of an OSBN approved, accredited nurse anesthetist program.  Holds current unencumbered state licensure as an RN and CRNA in the state of Oregon.Has three or more years of anesthesia experience with an emphasis on independent, rural acute care hospital practice.Is insurable by appropriate medical malpractice insurance. (Professional liability insurance is provided for the CRNA in this position.) Ability to achieve and maintain privileges as defined by West Valley Hospital Medical Staff. Current certification by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetist (AANA) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support provider certification is required. Neonatal Advanced Life Support and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support are current. Maintains regular on-call schedules and anesthesia coverage for the OR.

Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts professionally with physicians, patients, residents, visitors, staff, volunteers and the broader health care community.The ability to demonstrate a courteous, caring and understanding attitude towards others. Consistently maintains confidentiality regarding patients, families and co-workers. Always uses discretion when discussing confidential matters.

Working Conditions:

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, stoop, bend, squat, and reach for prolonged periods of time as required. Must be able to lift equipment and supplies weighing between 25-50 pounds. Must be able to lift and position patients with assistance and assist others in moving, lifting and positioning patients. Use judgment appropriate to patients condition regarding need for assistance; read and interpret applicable diagnostic screens; hear and interpret Doppler and stethoscope sounds; use senses (vision, hearing, smell, touch) to recognize changes in patient’s condition, respond to codes; perform CPR. Must be computer literate. Must be able to communicate with individuals in person or on the telephone; read and write legible text; solve complex problems; and respond to department and hospital emergencies. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress inherent to the position.
