TONY’S FINE FOODS a third generation family business has been marketing and distributing specialty and perishable foods to its valued retail and food service customers since 1934. Tony’s Fine Foods delivers reliable services, over 9,000 quality products and competitive prices to customers in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii. We believe that our ability to provide superior service to our customers starts with our people.  We are currently seeking a General Buyer for our West Sacramento location. 

 

Job Overview:  Support the sales and gross profit of the category team. Manage vendor product lines for maximum profit, supporting the category team with the right product, at the right time, at the right price. Negotiate programs and deals the create win/win outcomes for the customer, the vendor and Tony’s Fine Foods.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned.)

Develop product/category knowledge. Strive continually to negotiate better terms, discounts, regular promotional monies, spoils allowances, freight allowances, product costs, and all other vendor support programs to maximize company profitability. Constant review of items sales movement. Handle requests from Sales Reps regarding shorts and product inquiries. Create and place all purchase orders on assigned vendors. Ensure all vendor, product and cost files are accurate. Enter item price changes and communicate market and pricing discrepancies to the Category Directors. React to late orders, product shortages, product complaints, short-code products, and distressed merchandise to better serve our customer base and preserve sales opportunities. Maintain the following budget based metrics: 98% service level Average inventory turns of 35 8-weeks or older inventory of zero Net spoils to COGs ratio of .169% 75% P.O. to invoice match rate Carrier variance to sales of 1% Maximize price change income Maximize Promotional buy income

 

Qualifications:

Must have 2-3yrs exp. w/perishables. A passion for the food business 4-year college education or equivalent work experience. Strong communication and computer skills (Excel and Word) Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
