 PHILIPS San Marcos Operations, Business Unit Professional Luminaires, North America is an industry leader in the design and manufacture of world class HID Lighting Fixtures and Controls.  We currently have an immediate opening in our Purchasing Department for an experienced BUYER to work in our state-of-the-art facility in San Marcos, Texas. If you are an aggressive, goal-oriented buyer with 2-5 years of manufacturing experience who thrives on achievement rather than maintaining the status guo and seeks career advancement, then read on! NOTE:  Will consider an exceptionally strong applicant with superior educational background and 1-2 years experience in purchasing or planning in a manufacturing environment.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Buyer negotiates with vendors to obtain quotations, prices, and delivery times and evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine if they are compatible with company needs and objectives.  The incumbent also reviews opportunities for new supply sources and suitability of materials offered.  The buyer monitors the quality of goods, reviews costs, schedules, timeliness of delivery and conformance to specifications.  Heavy emphasis on MRP and planning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION AND KEY SKILLS (include but are not limited to):

Experience in purchasing in a manufacturing environment. Excellent negotiation skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment supporting operations experiencing significant sales growth. Excellent problem solving skills and ability to 'think out side of the box'. Strong knowledge of MRP and Planning. High energy and ability and desire to work in a dynamic environment, successfully participate and lead change efforts and ability to do sustained hard work. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong team building skills and ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships between Purchasing and other departments including Planning, Customer Service, and Manufacturing. Good PC skills including experience using Microsoft Office and working with data bases. Experience working in an ISO 9001-2000 environment and with foreign vendors is a strong plus as is APICS designation.
