Job Description: Summary: Completes and interprets actuarial valuations and cost estimates. Responsible for establishing good working relationships with clients as well as handling supervisory duties of the position. Ability to work successfully with mid-and-lower-level client contacts for all sizes and types of clients. Duties and Responsibilities Handles the preparation of valuations and cost estimates with minimal guidance from supervisor. Prepares data letters and other such client materials. Coordinates data collection including editing and testing data received from clients. Assists in preparation of annual actuarial valuation reports. Provides leadership and training to Associate level actuaries and is generally responsible for the operation of the department in the absence of a supervisor. Reviews drafts of plan amendments, QDROs, etc. from the legal department. Assists in completion of government forms for clients. Assists in gathering and providing information to outside auditors. Has telephone contact with clients on various matters. Establishes strong working relationships with clients. May attend client meetings with Consultant. Assists in developing administrative procedures and forms used by clients. Special projects or assignments as instructed by your supervisor/manager Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Experience ? Generally 3 to 5 years of experience. Actuarial Exams ? (1) Completion of the EA-1 exam exams OR (2) completion of two Society of Actuary exams (from among P, FM, M and C ? or, if it should become relevant, their equivalent). Co-operation and Teamwork ? acts as part of a team, works well with others, takes fair share of the workload. An important part of teamwork is communicating with one another ? both those who are more junior and those who are more senior on assignments. Consultants should be able to motivate and train associates and should be able to give constructive feedback to associates. Initiative and a sense of responsibility ? takes personal responsibility for the timeliness and quality of the work he or she performs and for completing the work within budget. Has an awareness of client deadlines and works to meet those deadlines and communicate about resource problems. Acts on new opportunities, accepts challenges and responsibilities. Understands and acts on the need to keep current within the legal, regulatory, and accounting framework and to be abreast of trends. Seeks the big picture ? wants to understand the big picture and seeks help to understand it. Begins to use the tools of the trade ? the Internal Revenue Code and regulations for compliance and funding considerations and the Financial Accounting Standards Board Statements and ?Q?s and A?s? for financial accounting rules and/or Governmental Accounting Board Statements, and our internal experts. Handles confidential information appropriately. Attention to detail -- Can be trusted to be consistently accurate while not losing sight of the big picture. Capabilities and Competencies ? including: Preparation of the annual actuarial valuation (supervision of the data collection and preparation, valuation system coding, completion of actuarial reports, etc.) with some (appropriate) guidance from more senior staff. Acceptable written and verbal communication skills. Able to participate in a client meeting covering topics about which he or she has knowledge and responsibility. Fully responsible for reviewing the work of associates and senior associates in their competencies noted above. Within the context of the individual?s knowledge, able to manage a project, including coming up with a plan for getting the work done, directing the work of others and completing the work product on time and within budget. Able to, without assistance, manage the accurate and complete delivery of government forms and benefit administration services.
