The Blood Bank services the Medical Center and its affiliate hospitals; The R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, a large multi-disciplinary cancer program based in the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center and one of the largest Kidney, Liver, Heart, Lung and Stem Cell Transplant Programs in the country. You'll be working with the unique resources and talented team members who are helping us make enormous advances in patient care each and every day.
As the Blood Bank Supervisor, you'll supervise and coordinate daily functions and activities within the lab, ensuring the provision of services to meet the needs of patients as ordered by medical staff and performed in accordance with accepted standards and practices, as well as, regulations stipulated by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act.
Working closely with the Medical Directors and Technical Specialist, the position is responsible for:
• Budgeting and financial planning
• Monitoring
• Regulatory compliance and quality assurance activities
• Staffing and training
• Evaluation and selection of equipment and procurement activities
• Supervision of laboratory personnel
Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in Medical Technology, Biology, Microbiology or Chemistry, or equivalent is required. Certification as a registered Medical Technologist obtained from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists is required. A.B.S. without certification can be hired & trained but must obtain certification in 3 years. (Blood Bank specialty requires certification by the American Association of Blood Bank, in addition, as a specialist in Blood Banking). A minimum of three years progressively responsible experience as a Medical Technologist within the specific laboratory unit, performing laboratory testing and evaluation duties, or equivalent, is required. In addition, a minimum of one year lead worker responsibility, overseeing the work of Medical Technologists and laboratory support personnel is required. Proficient knowledge of clinical laboratory process, testing and analytical procedures and techniques, and various specialized laboratory equipment (of the assigned laboratory unit), including the routine maintenance and calibration thereof. Equipment knowledge must include centrifuge, chemistry analyzers, fluorescent microscope or specialized laboratory equipment specific to the assigned laboratory. Knowledge of supervisory skills and directing the work of Medical Technologists and lower level laboratory staff. Assigning work priorities, auditing work quality, orienting and training, evaluation and administration of disciplinary action appropriately as directed by the Laboratory Manager.
