Principal Research Scientist II, aka Bioinformatics Technology Group Lead Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Cambridge, Massachusetts (Boston, MA) Job Summary Wyeth is looking for a candidate to lead and manage a dynamic group within Bioinformatics focused on the rapid development of tools and systems to enable internal sequence processing and analysis, identification and production of novel protein and antibody-based biotherapeutics, and support of all Bioinformatic analytical workflows, particularly those facilitating cross-platform analyses. The ideal candidate will combine technical competence with scripting and Web development technologies as used in the Bioinformatics space with a background in sequence analysis tools and systems. The candidate will be capable of providing input and leadership in the bioinformatics software strategy by applying an understanding of software methodologies and practices; existing open source and third party applications; current directions in the Bioinformatics and genomics space. Strong collaboration with scientific customers and Bioinformatics technology support staff is critical. Basic Qualifications *A Doctorate Degree. *A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, preferably of which at least 2 are postdoctoral and at least 3 are in the pharmaceutical, or related, industry. *Relevant experience should include bioinformatic software development, web-based application development, Open Source tools and packages, sequence and annotation databases, and general UNIX scripting and operations. *At least 3 years demonstrated experience in project and team leadership. * Superb communication skills, verbal and written. *Experience with the following specific technologies is strongly desired: - Perl scripting. - Linux OS. - Bioinformatics command line tool suites, e.g., EMBOSS. - Web development technologies, e.g., Java, servlet, JSP architectures. - Strong knowledge of modern web application development techniques, relational databases and data integration. - Experience with workflow paradigms and systems to increase productivity, e.g., Inforsense KDE, Taverna.
