SUMMARY OF POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Accurately prepares and submits paper and electronic claims to all our third party payers. Analyzes billing statement and claim forms to verify accuracy and completeness. Effectively communicates with other hospital departments and third party payers to obtain complete and accurate coding and billing information. Ensures coding on claims is in compliance with all government and third party payers.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Effective communication skills to interact with internal and external customers to evaluate and work through issues, including those that are system related.

3. Knowledge of provider coding; i.e., ICD-9, CPT, Revenue, Value and Condition coding and their application to UB92 and HCFA 1500 claim forms is preferred.

4. Accurate typing/keyboarding skills, minimum of 30 wpm.

5. Ability to adapt to change quickly.

6. Work requires working at a PC terminal upwards of 75% of the day.

7. 6-12 months hospital billing experience preferred.

8. Ability to analyze and interpret hospital statements to insure compliance with all third party billing requirements; including, Federal State and managed care payers

9. Ability to analyze and interpret insurance company billing and coding requirements to avoid rebilling and payment delays
